Proper technique to listing..

Hello all and thanks in advance.

My wife has an ebay seller account and she has been selling 3-4 items a day.  It has been as high as 10-12 items so it's somewhat worthwhile.

Her problem, the returns are going sky-high.  IT seems like 1 in 5 things the buyer wants to return.

She offers free shipping on some items, so she will have paid the initial shipping, then the return shipping, PLUS have to return the money.

We've been told complete contradicting answers on how to follow a policy etc.

What techniques can she use to gather some sort of protection?

We've tried the no refunds, no returns, that ended poorly, we've tried just about every way I can think of and it doesn't seem to matter anymore.  She is changing from a profitable hobby to a sinking waste.

Ebay is or was an auction site.  Auctions used to be as is, or at least have some sort of seller protection.  How can anyone get ahead with such poorly thought out policies?

Walmart is Walmart

Amazon is Amazon

Ebay is neither Walmart nor Amazon, and with its current direction, will never be.

What methods should I educate myself with to stop this pandemic of returned items and people keeping the product and the money?

Re: Proper technique to listing..

In his original message, the OP mentions that his wife paid shipping and paid for return shipping, so assumed the item had been shipped.  Maybe he's referring to several different scenarios here, because he also mentions quite a few return cases.

Original post was made on the 3rd but the truck seats sold on the 15th but later on in the posts he is talking about the truck seats....which according to listing only had local pickup but then says they made a return.

Upon looking they had a truck bench seat that was local pickup only but a single seat that was $85.00 shipping on the 11th.

Or people know that they can just say doesn't fit, inad and usher in free product.  I know both my account and my wife's account look fairly new, but we were on ebay since it was created.

@itsmrfixer

The reason doesn't fit, is not an INAD, it is a Buyer Remorse return.

The time any member signed up for Ebay doesn't really tell anyone much about a members experience.  The number of transactions they have had in that time period does.

On most of ebay, true, BUT I believe ebay Motors has doesn't fit as a SNAD reason.

Remember they have a Guaranteed to Fit thing on there as well.

Re: Proper technique to listing..

I didn't think LPU allowed for a doesn't fit return?

It's expected that the buyer will examine the item before they take it away from the seller.

nevermind  - I see this sale was not a LPU then.

Hope you've received a reply that was useful to you.

But, if you haven't, maybe we could use more clarity about your problem/problems?

Re: Proper technique to listing..

Early on this thread, i mentioned the amount of returns.  Members here stated we should add better descriptions.

There was a hot water heater that sold, the buyer didn't read or even look at her pictures.  The item was TANK only.  The buyer wanted a return because it wasn't complete as per the pictures on the side of the box.  My wife called ebay help.  They told her to accept the return and issue a refund.  Because they said it was an INAD case, she had to pay the shipping both ways, and lost the buyers money.  She was out $40 approx, for that sale.

The megaman buyer, wanted a refund, INAD.  He states it was full of sticky stuff, damaged, etc.  He threw the box away.  Refund.  She tried the USPS route who wanted the package.  Buyer threw it away.  Usps said can't help.

Yukon gear kit, buyer never read description, just used eBay parts to find the part he needed. My wife had the correct years in the description WHICH HIS WASNT THERE.   EBAY said it would fit.  Stated it was wrong.  Ebay stated she must take back the return. Instead of returning it and paying more money, she refunded and he kept it.

And onto the seat.  I know it fits his truck, he knows it fit his truck.  He claimed it was wrong, He sent a picture of the seat in the box.  That's it.  So instead of sending the seat back ~$100 shipping, she just gave the seat to him.

Hope this helps.

Was the tank all that would have came in the box originally though? If other things originally came in the box then she listed it wrong and buyer was completely in the right.

Okay so you yourself say that she refunds instead of payign shipping back.

Re: Proper technique to listing..

No the tank wasn't the only thing in the box.  It was a tank and a faucet.

The faucet was missing.  She described it as it was.  Tank only.  It was new but not complete in box.

How can she be in the wrong?

Re: Proper technique to listing..

From the information you've posted here, it seems like your wife is just refunding on NAD claims without requiring a return.  If that's her business plan, she's never going to make any money here.

Does she understand that?

Because she chose this as her item condition. Notice how it says includes original accessories...if it didn't include the faucet that you said originally came in the box then she didn't list it correctly. I don't know if you realize this but if she messed sup too much and get her account suspended from selling them yours will also be suspended from selling.

Open box: An item in excellent, new condition with no wear. The item may be missing the original packaging or protective wrapping, or may be in the original packaging but not sealed. The item includes original accessories. The item may be a factory second. See the seller's listing for full details and description.
