Promotional Fee Change

I listed a product for $2500 and it's kind of a unique item. Ebay offered a promotion on it at 6.5%, which I didn't agree to....about a week later I decided to lower my product's price  to $1950, and so Ebay sent me a new promotion at 10%. Same item different price, different promotion cost....Doesn't seem to make sense. Comments please, thanks.

Re: Promotional Fee Change

You lowered your price.

Ebay felt they needed to make more.

Re: Promotional Fee Change

First thing......it's perfectly ok to completely ignore eBay's suggested rates, you can decide how much you want to "spend" (increased fees if sold) and use that percentage.

Nobody knows exactly the secret sauce eBay uses to calculate their suggested rates but as far as the ups and downs they are just like commodities, currencies, the stock markets etc. they relate to supply and demand. There are only x number of "slots" available to insert promoted listings (in search, in sidebar ads, in emails etc.) if more sellers are using PL and/or offering to give eBay a higher percentage that will obviously drive up the suggested rate.

Just like the stock market, rates go up and down minute by minute and many times the change can be dramatic (see the stock markets this past week for example).

In the case of Promoted Listings, eBay is a seller, like any seller they want to get the best price possible. You are the buyer, like any buyer you want to pay the lowest price possible.

As far as your example, eBay see that you lowered the price by 22%, they see that and think that maybe you would also be willing to spend more money on PL as well.

In the OP's case it certainly is because there is almost nothing about their listing that buyers would search for.

Buyers might see it via browsing but it's in a Category with a ton of items so even that would be unlikely.

PL will give you impressions that you would never get from regular search results.

Re: Promotional Fee Change

OK, I did not search the OP's listings.  My thoughts were that a "unique" item would have some "key words" that would set it apart in search.

Now that I look,  it seems that............................   OOAK, Unique, 50 years old, Unknown Origin ........   in the title could be replaced with better "key words" to possibly make it more searchable.
