Promoted listings

Hi,

I have just put some items to promoted listings and try it out. Do I need to pay the percentage of the insert fee plus final fee if the item is sold? or I only need to pay the percentage of final fee.

Do you think it is worth to join this promoted listings?

Yes you have to pay the % fee on top of other fees if your promoted item sells when buyer directly clicks on the sponsored link of your item. You need 12 - 20% ad rate to be more effective. Start new promotions 3 times a day spread out over the day i.e. morning, lunch time and evening. End old promotions. Try to put 20-30 items per promotion. Its then worth to join this program because if you follow the steps above ebay has to reposition your listings in the search engine. 20% will get you to the top of search results. Thus more likely to sell.

I'll copy and paste my feelings on this subject from a previous thread.

"I don't have the answer. So far I have ignored the $30. credit.

Mainly because I am so ticked to find out all the regular listings I paid for aren't also getting the proper amount of exposure without being promoted.

Nothing was ever announced by ebay to the fact that regular listings would have downgraded exposure.

It's no wonder hardly anything is selling."

I ignored the $30 free also. Promoted listings are the biggest scam since buyers need you to ship their item to Africa and want to pay you $200 extra..

For the majority of the inventory I deal in, 'promoted' listings wouldn't be worth paying for.  When I look up my current competition, the few that are promoted listings are always interspersed down the page with listings that are NOT promoted listings, so why would a seller want to pay extra for that?  Regardless of whether I look at eBay's Best Match or switch to Lowest Price, the promoted listings are still just mixed in with all the rest on the page, certainly not leading the list either.  Not worth much as far as I can see.

Promoted listings sport the additional heading of Sponsored.  So, most listings down the page don't have that, but a few do... here and there among all the normal listings.  There doesn't seem to be anything that sets them apart from any other listing or order placement on the page other than that note.

They don't cost anything unless you run over the $30 credit, if you are eligible for it.....  so I really don't understand why people don't at least try it.......

As far as %'s go I would start low and then adjust.....  I sold a one of a kind at 2%......pair of Flo Blue plates, not a sought after item.

They appear in other places besides search........so sometimes NOT where one would expect to find the article...for some cases, it's like the chocolate at the checkout counter, the buyer may NOT be looking for the item.....but may buy on impulse......

how do i know if is a promoted item....i still have my normal allotment but:  how do i note when is a collectable and get the promotion....does ebay decides if is promotion or not,,,i list records collectable and do not get promotion,,,

What is the fee amount?  2%, 5%, 10% of the item price?  The main page simply states that it is a percentage of the price of comparable items.  But, when selling artisan or unique items, what does Ebay compare?

the $30 is not per quarter it is the month that the quarter lands on. hence the $30 only counts in Jan April July and October. you have to pay for feb -march may- june august september and november december. its not spread out across the 3 months. i found out the hard way. and customer service and i got into it fairly bad over it. but for me it pays off. cause my sales have increased even though a lot of my sales are not promoted link followed. people see and item and check out my other stuff and then come back and buy from me later. 3 of my buyers shared simular stories. then again they happen to be sellers as well. they say it is common so they buy after they leave the sponcered listing

That is so incorrect it hurts to read it.

The PL credit IS spread out across 3 months. Eligible sellers get $30 in PL credits per quarter. PL fees for a billing month are always paid on that month's invoice and are credited back on the following month's invoice out of any remaining amount of the $30/qtr credit amount. That's the way it works for me (and everyone else).

Somehow, you have managed to do it wrong if it doesn't work that way for you.
