Promoted Listings...

Why did the suggested promoted listings % change from 4%-5% to 12.5%-13% in 2 years time? Really think that with a store prescription paid monthly, as well as the % taken off the top of each item sale should really be enough.  Why be so greedy as to ask for 13% to promote anything?  Really Ebay would profit more if more items were sold? But raking the sellers over the coals is not helping either side. What do other sellers think of these outrageous promoted listing fees?

Promoted Listings...

I ignore the suggestion.  I always over ride it and promote at the same percentage across the board.  So I guess to answer your question it doesn't bother me.

It changed because the number of sellers who have chosen to promote their products has increased and you do not get enough bang for the buck as you did in the past.

You need to consider whether you should find merchandise which has less competition if you want to lower your promotion costs.

There are lots of sellers of die cast cars who have seen similar issues and posted on this forum. Many of them do not have enough margin to pay for 12-13% promotion.

It's by design. The more people who promote, the higher the suggested rate will be. Although eBay doesn't use the terminology, it's actually an auction where sellers will 'bid" for visibility, especially when sales are down. All it takes is one seller to set their PL rate at 15-20%, then the suggested ad rate range is skewed. I can promise you that eBay will not suggest the low-end rate.

Promoted Listings...

I think I wont "pay to play" and if everyone took that approach there would be no more "promoted listings"

I had a boss who wanted every incoming shipment to have a HOT or SOS tag on them if they were Hot or Needed for production.

Every morning production would come in and mark the boxes HOT or SOS.

As the lead in the area, after 2 days, I showed him what this had done.

Every box had a HOT or SOS tag on it, so it didnt help or fix anything because if everything is HOT, nothing is.

Like promoted listings .... everything promoted, then they are all the same except sellers are paying more in fees.
