I understand that no one likely knows the answer - but I wanted to bring a recent discovery to the attention of sellers and ask anyway... If anyone has a reason, I'd appreciate hearing it... 🙂
I was just listing some new 45-RPM records... one stated the promo rate was 4.3% - the second one stated it was 5.2% while the 3rd one gave the rate of 6.4%. Only difference was the title of the records! The 4th one shows 4.3% again. Same year, same label, same condition, same artist... I am totally baffled now as to how these percentages are calculated. Just so odd! They are all 7" records! I thought it was a category basis?
Just goes to prove there is no consistency and the amount of trend is bogus, perhaps? At least IMO. Does anyone know of a plausible reason for this variance before I complete the drafts? Thanks.

I do not think the trending rate is category based. The reason I say this is because I am currently running all my listings in Home & Garden>Holiday & Seasonal Decor>Ornaments at the trending rate. The rates are varying between 8-10% and it is quite easy for me to see it is based on the shape of the ornament.

Wow! On the shape? So a round one is a different trend than a square or an oval one? I had no idea! Thanks.

I don't pay attention to the trending rate at all. I just promote all my listings around 1.2% only cost me a few extra cents.

I believe the trend is entirely made up out of thin air. I also believe promoted listings "sponsored" showing up on listings deters buyers from even clicking on the spam. We already know the promted search is a disaster and you are still only listed higher on the page if you pay a higher fee than the next guy......with no way to know what they are paying.
Nah. The trending rate has to be programmed. It would take too long and be too expensive to have people do it, so it is logical ebay, being a cutting-edge tech Co, would have it done by a program. Only question might be, what parameters do they actually use, other than it very, very rarely goes below a certain percentage and only gets real high occasionally?
