Do these sellers realize that price gouging is illegal? I mean, $1,000.00 for 1 ounce of USED hand sanitizer while our nation is facing virus that is killing people is not just wrong, it's illegal. Then there is the fact that as fast as eBay is taking them down they are slipping by, by relisting them time & time again. With the above mentioned item being used, it is potentially not safe anyways. I just don't get how these people are going out buying up as much as they can, keeping it out of the hands of those who fall in the at risk groups & then thinking they will get rich while people are at risk of dying! I just find it really sad that some go that low in our nation. I just really want to know why are these items still for sell on eBay & still being allowed to be posted?

So, I have not looked through all the replies here, but just what is the opinion about an auction listing for a 'banned' item? If the item has a starting price of at or below retail & bidders raise that amount above retail, is that defined as price gouging? It only takes two bidders to raise the price of an item, soap has sold for many times above retail here on this site, is that still defined as price gouging? Not looking to get flamed about this issue, just do not understand that eBay issues a blanket policy on items when the seller is not starting his price above retail and the bidders are the ones pushing the amount upwards.

A banned item by Ebay is a banned item no matter the price. Many posters using these as interchangeable words. Often what is referred to as price gouging is just talk of a banned item.

Interesting the Ebay just can't seem to nail down the black market selling on their site. 1 can of Lysol going for $50 right now, maybe that's considered a "normal" markup. Could it be the fact Ebay is making money off of these sales? Is that why they are unable to stop the black marketing of these items? Here's hoping for an AG investigation down the road, go after the companies that are not being good corporate citizens.

just checked one i watched and reported 20 n95 was listed sold for 1400, plus shipping the pig would not even include shipping.

normal retail on 20 masks is 15 to 20 dollars so 70x retail is gouging

i understand some rise in price due to demand and how to get restock might cost more due to airshipping etc. but this was not a medical sight and eb was notified at 940.00 but even worst the sucker who bought them sight unseen then might have even been in the texas floods that was sellers location

In the Bay Area, Google and Facebook have stepped up as partners in the Covid-19 fight. Ebay is displaying the worst kind of corporate greed, putting profit over lives. I never thought I'd see a company displaying this kind of behavior.

Clorox wipes and Lysol spray are appearing sporadically on store shelves, sold out within minutes. I can't help but wonder how many of these items are making their way to Ebay? I can imagine a worker making a little over minimum wage can see how much these go for on Ebay and I can also imagine some of these items never making it to the shelves. Or people buying them for the express purpose of getting in on the Ebay Covid-19 death gravy train.

It is simple economics. supply and demand. when there is high demand the prices will rise as costs to supply those products also go up.

ebay , amazon and any one else who restricts the sale of a product is only contributing to the higher price Gouging. do you think 3M is going to make a lot more masks if they cant charge more ? NO! they would have to hire a lot more people to do 3 Shifts 24 hours a day 7 days a week. which means more cost. so they are allowed to raise the price by 10% right off the back. and they are allowed under the emergency price gouging laws to raise it more than that with using the exclusions of higher labor, goods, or materials that have increased.

Now for some history. face masks or surgical masks use to cost only $ 9 to $ 29.99 a box of 50 no matter what level or brand. but when the corona virus hot china bought all the masks all over the world and the good old economics i told you about earlier started to raise the price as no one could get face masks. now the only way for the masks to be sold for $ 9 to $29 a box of 50 is for the manufacturer to supply more or the same quantity at the same old price. but neither of those things happened. instead just the opposite . china went on lock down and shut down the factories and stopped exporting all masks . so no masks were leaving china at all for months. any American Manufacturer you here about that make masks here in the US . is really just a front. all those manufacturers just have the little shop and big warehouse set up to look like an American made in USA company. they produce such small amounts here in the USA it is laughable. those same companies with the big warehouses order from china the cheap product and store it in the USA warehouses.

when china bought up the worlds supply all those warehouse went empty. like i stated before. there was no incentive to start producing at maximum quantity here in the US. and they dont have very large capacity anyway.

So we all had to contact China and try and place orders that they would tell us would come in 3 to 4 months maybe ! because it was up to China's Government now to release the export embargo on all Face masks and PPE.

So when those months went by the last remaining stock here in the US sky rocketed . and when china opened they did not go back to the old prices either. the excuses that we get from china is that the raw material has sky rocketed. and that shipping costs are very high.

now I know for sure that the shipping cost have gone up 15 fold. because there are no longer the same amount of passenger flights leaving china as before. so only commercial DHL/Fedex/UPS are shipping the PPE and all the orders are sitting at the airport. not only for an open spot on the air cargo plan but to now be inspected by the Chinese government. which is really holding things up for weeks !!

so in closing . the price of masks will most likely not return to anywhere normal for a long time. maybe all of this year. and for someone like you or ebay , amazon to tell the sellers that they are price gouging because the price is higher than you payed or seen before. is ignorant !

I have tried to explain all this to ebay which they really dont care. Customer service from ebay is in the Philippines. they dont know our laws or economy. ebay still allows sellers to sale the face masks but only sellers that have a store and pay more to ebay. you can not put a roof on the price of the product because of all i have explained. and who is ebay to set the price of an item ? No one ! the only way to get the price down is for ebay and amazon to let everyone sale the masks and flood the market again and the seller competition will get fierce and sellers will lower the price to make sales.

PS. if ebay was really removing all listings for Face masks across the board. dont you think they would use the brain God gave them and just delete or suspend the category ," Disposable Face masks" altogether ?

they dont because they know they are allowing only the sellers that have a store and pay them every month for that store.
