Price Gouging

Do these sellers realize that price gouging is illegal? I mean, $1,000.00 for 1 ounce of USED hand sanitizer while our nation is facing virus that is killing people is not just wrong, it's illegal. Then there is the fact that as fast as eBay is taking them down they are slipping by, by relisting them time & time again. With the above mentioned item being used, it is potentially not safe anyways. I just don't get how these people are going out buying up as much as they can, keeping it out of the hands of those who fall in the at risk groups & then thinking they will get rich while people are at risk of dying! I just find it really sad that some go that low in our nation. I just really want to know why are these items still for sell on eBay & still being allowed to be posted?

Coincidentally, as I was clicking the "reply" button, the local TV news sent out an appeal from one of our region's hospitals soliciting donations of hand sanitizer, which they're unable to get.

Sounds like someone in the hospital's sourcing department needs to be fired. If eBay sellers can get hand sanitizer to sell, I don't see why the hospitals can't.

They need to add chlorine bleach and rubbing alcohol to the list of gouged items. Right now they're selling $4 gallons of chlorine bleach for $26. They're selling $2 16oz bottles of rubbing alcohol for $32. It's obvious some of the rubbing alcohol is Walmart's store brand. So this means Walmart employees are probably hoarding it and selling it on Ebay.

With shipping or without shipping? I could easily see a gallon of bleach costing $20 to ship, plus its probably hazmat and has to be sent ground.

**bleep** THERE IS OVER 16,000 LISTING OF JUST LYSOL SELLS AS WE SPEAK. I SPENT HOURS TURNING SELLER IN TO EBAY. ONLY TO FIND THE LISTING STILL UP AND RUNNING OR SOLD
EBAY WANTS THAT MONEY AS BAD AS THE SELLERS.
THE PRESIDENT NEEDS TO FINE EBAY $1000 FOR EACH SALE SOLD. WATCH HOW FAST EBAY JERKS THOSE SELLS OFF THEN

Please don't yell at us.  Which is what all caps mean.  We are all here sharing information.

FYI Lysol doesn't only make wipes and antibacterial cleaner.  They have a whole line of products they sell.

Some of the other things they sell are an whole host of toilet bowl cleaners, brushes to clean with, mops, mop heads, dish scrubbers and much more.

If you add antibacterial to your search words, then the result is only 95.

Re: Price Gouging

I went under the description section and on the right side of the page you will find a REPORT link. When you click it the option to report price gouging is listed in two sections, and the third section is a choice of the category they are listed under.  I reported about 25 of the toilet paper listings.  I also sent a direct email to ebay asking them to just delete ALL of them, this way they don't have to sort through the ignorant sellers that are taking advantage of this terrible virus that is killing people.  Maybe they would act differently if they had a family member or friend that was infected by this virus.  Just had to take a moment to share and vent.  Please be safe and try to stay healthy.

Re: Price Gouging

My message is to make sure that eBay can cancel all current active bidding to close down the auction for all medical items that are severely needed by our medical workers.

But you are assuming Ebay isn't doing much about these listings and nothing could be further from what is actually happening.  Ebay has removed 10's of 1,000's of listings and they continue to do so.

So do your part and report them as you find them.  That helps Ebay to locate and remove the listings.

Good Luck!  $305 for Bottle of Rubbing Alcohol - Current Bid

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Swan-Isopropyl-Rubbing-Alcohol-70-LOT-QTY-OF-500-16-Oz-Bottles/313038522803...

It is 'Further from the truth'. The listings may be taken down, but they immediately return, over and over.

EVERY LISTING IN A SEARCH FOR ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL IS BEING PRICE GOUGED! EVERY SINGLE ONE! I CHALLENGE ANYONE TO PROVE THAT WRONG. COMPLETED ITEMS ~ SAME SEARCH OVER 13,400 ~ EXCEL SCAN ON COMPLETED +- 380,000* BOTTLES OF ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL HAVE BEEN PRICE GOUGED!

For reference Isopropyl still sells at Walmart [when available] for $2.50 for a 32 oz bottle of 91%.

It is very easy to find completed listings that have sold for over 1,500% mark-up. Sorry, I beg to differ. Ebay is doing nothing. The listings in this search have exploded over the last week and a half, and the price has exponentially increased. This is just 1 item, and there are 1000's of items being price gouged on Ebay. If you cant get it at your local store, it means just one thing; it's on Ebay at at least 4X's the usual price.

Re: Price Gouging

I meant to attach the listing I referenced to the last post. It's been reported, lets see what happens to it.

It will never happen, [because Ebay will take down because user_id would be shown] but what needs to be available is a board where reported listings can be tracked, along with the users ID. Then it would be simple to track Ebay's progress. Possibly a site that would track that information. It would not only show what items are being gouged, but the biggest offenders, and a tremendous resource for Law Enforcement. It's Saturday... anyone know a coder with a couple spare hours to throw it together?

Re: Price Gouging

I can't believe the negativity on this discussion thread and people jumping the gun to report and take down valid listings, JUST LIKE THE ONE ATTACHED TO THIS POST!!  If you would take the time and read and do your proper research, instead of just hitting REPORT SELLER button....THIS SELLER IS SELLING (500) BOTTLES OF ALCOHOL...NOT (1) BOTTLE.  It's right there in the listing title....500 bottles......its also in the description down below in this listing...500 bottles...PLUS, the seller is paying for the shipping which is having to been done by freight!  Do you know how much it's going to cost to ship by freight 500/16 oz bottles of alcohol?  Right now, not looking at his eBay & PayPal fees, which I would assume they are not a store owner, since they have no other items for sell, plus the cost of his shipping by freight....their net is around 60 cents a bottle , minus their fees and shipping, and not to mention the hassle to acquire this many bottles, his time and trouble for all of this.  THIS SELLER WILL BE LUCKY IF HE IS NOT OWING BY THE TIME THIS AUCTION IS FINISHED!  He deserves at least a $500.00 bid or more to break even.

I've seen it over and over again on this discussion thread....people accusing sellers of gouging....when you are not reading the auction title, description or the shipping thoroughly.  I've seen some of you go off on some sellers for their shipping fees.....what you are not seeing, is that that are offering USPS EXPRESS OVERNIGHT OR FED EX OVERNIGHT SHIPPING, which isn't cheap.  If the buyer is wanting and willing to pay for overnight shipping for an item he really needs, the seller should be allowed to offer that service without being condemned.

Looks like to me, whomever the buyer is...they are getting a steal....at 60 cents a bottle!!!  That's cheaper than going to your local $ tree, much less Walmart at $2 + a bottle they sell it for.

Please, it looks like some of you have nothing better to do while stuck at home, than to stir the pot or be negative here on eBay.  Now, because of y'alls yelling, no one is able to purchase much needed items, because good sellers can't list them.  If they allowed the good store owners to sell, it would make the other sellers (non-store owners) trying to make a profit stick out like a sore thumb and no one would purchase from them, because it's being offered by someone else cheaper.   It's all comes down to supply and demand....there is plenty of supply, buyers are demanding it, so let the sellers list it!

But please....READ the entire listing heading, description and shipping thoroughly...before jumping the gun!

Re: Price Gouging

Good news, today our local Costco had TP and paper towels again and also a Walmart I visited had plenty of TP and a bunch of paper towels. I made some calls and bought 2 6 roll packs for people that needed the TP. Also delivered some paper towels. Here's hoping the aholes that were trying to make a buck off this end up choking on all that TP. Costco already said it's a no return item.

That is pretty easy for any of us to say really, but that doesn't mean it is factually correct.

Some sellers are getting very creative on how to get their listings posted using new sellers, categories they don't belong in etc.  Trying to elude Ebay's detection long enough to make a sale or two.

Then there are the auctions.  If the seller starts an auction for a reasonable about, Ebay isn't likely to close it.  But then buyers post multiple bids and drive the price sky high.

Many of the listings you see when you do a search for those that may be price gouging on one thing or another are new listings.  Report them as you find them, that really helps Ebay locate them.  Ebay has been quite busy removing thousands of listings over the last few weeks.
