Do these sellers realize that price gouging is illegal? I mean, $1,000.00 for 1 ounce of USED hand sanitizer while our nation is facing virus that is killing people is not just wrong, it's illegal. Then there is the fact that as fast as eBay is taking them down they are slipping by, by relisting them time & time again. With the above mentioned item being used, it is potentially not safe anyways. I just don't get how these people are going out buying up as much as they can, keeping it out of the hands of those who fall in the at risk groups & then thinking they will get rich while people are at risk of dying! I just find it really sad that some go that low in our nation. I just really want to know why are these items still for sell on eBay & still being allowed to be posted?

Well, lets see. A six pack of 1 ounce Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer normally sells for around $10.25. So, dividing that by six is around $1.71 each that is for NEW. So, I would think $100.00 is for sure price gouging. You asked. Just saying!

So $1.71 is ok. $100 would be price gouging. What about in between those 2 amounts? What about someone selling one for $1.72? Should be arrested for price gouging?

@uniqueantiquestore wrote:You can make your own hand sanitizer, it is not necessary to drop a grand on an ounce of used hand sanitizer. You can make 100 gallons of your own sanitizer for that amount of money. Price gouging laws apply only to essential goods during a temporary emergency such as gasoline, fuels, food, clothing, shelter, medicine and medical devices. It does not apply to hand sanitizer or wet wipes, those are not considered essential goods. The price gouging laws exist so that in a state of emergency all citizens rich or poor will have the financial ability to drive their car, purchase a hotel or some type of accommodations, acquire food and water, get their needed medicines and buy coats and other types of clothing to survive a disaster. Price gouging laws do not apply to hand sanitizers or wet wipes or any other common consumer product, market demand sets the prices for non essential items.
It depends on the state laws.
Alabama:
Prohibits "unconscionable prices" for sale or rental of any
commodities or rental facilities during a declared state of emergency.
A price is prima facie "unconscionable" if it exceeds 25% of the
average price during the last 30 days immediately prior to the
declared emergency and that increase is not attributable to
reasonable costs.
California:
Prohibits sales or offers to sell consumer goods and services
(including fuel) at a price of more than 10% above the price charged
for those goods and services immediately prior to a federal, state, or
local declared emergency. A violation does not occur if the price
increase is directly attributable to increased costs from a supplier or
costs incurred in providing the service during the emergency,
provided that the additional costs represents no more than 10%
above the cost to the seller plus a customary markup.
And others you can find on this link. The list is a little old as it is from 2014.

I personally would think that if I was to take a 1 ounce Purell that I USED back to the store saying that I didn't like it that they would do 1 of 2 things. 1 they would say no refunds or they would refund & then through it away, as they would not be able to resell it.
Let me be straight here, this post is NOT about a few cents differents! This is about a few dollars, somewhere between just a few dollars to ten's or hundreds of dollars!
I personally think if people are buying up ALL that is for sell in 1, 2 or more stores, making it to where others can't buy what the CDC is saying to use. Just to get rich is wrong!
Some people are in the at risk groups & these people are putting them in danger!
I don't plan to nit pick with you, eBay will decide what they think is price gouging & will take action how they see fit.

e-commerce has rules for selling on line. eBay has rules for selling on their site. If they are saying that they will be removing items that are price gouging & forbids sellers from profiting from “human tragedy, or suffering.”. Well then there you go.

OK, did I say something different???

People act like these hand Sanitizers get bought packed and shipped with a magic wand. Are we supposed to give them away?

I don't want to argue either. I understand what you're saying and i actually agree with you.
The point i'm trying to make is you just can't say "price gouging" without knowing exactly what it is. Everyone is complaining about price gouging but can't say exactly what it is.
I don't plan to nit pick with you, eBay will decide what they think is price gouging & will take action how they see fit.
No, they wont. Ebay decided to ban these products all together rather than figure out what is and what isn't price gouging and then try to enforce it.

Germ - X Hand Sanitizer 30 oz with Aloe. Being sold for $5,00.00 is not free by any means. People understand that they will need to pay for shipping just as they would if buying from any where online. But, it does not cost very much to ship it.

Really, that is your take away from this!!!! You think it is because you have to charge more for the product to allow for shipping?!?!?!? Come on, surely you have to know better than that!
I see your most recent listing was ended. As it should have been.

There are lots of recipes out there for homemade hand sanitizers...
Yes there are, but be careful in how you mix them as if done incorrectly you can severely dry your skin out to the point of cracking.
The alcohol percentage has to be a minimum of 60% to be effective. Some aloe to help prevent drying your skin is important too.
Just educate yourself before jumping in and doing this is what I suggest for everyone.

What is really sad is those that are in areas that can't get the hand sanitizers or can't get out because of health reasons, will suffer because of the people that think this situation is funny & have a get rich quick scam they want to play! Some really do rely on online purchases! Way to go guys! Prayers to all in this time of uncertainty!

They are doing the same thing with toilet paper. I just saw 2 four packs of scott toilet paper selling for 53.99. I put in a bid for 7.99 LOL and told them they were price gouging which is against the law.
I am trying to get a message to ebay about this but its so hard to find out where to send in complaints.
