You don't have to ship via ebay shipping method. You can take it to the Post office yourself and ship from there. Remember to ask for a tracking no. to provide to the customer and to show proof it was shipped.

The tracking number will be on the receipt from the Post Office. As soon as you get home enter that number for the transaction and it will be marked as shipped.

As noted in the other posts, it's OK to purchase postage elsewhere online, or at the Post Office counter, as long as you make sure that the tracking number gets entered into eBay.
But online postage costs less than the retail price you'd pay at the counter (except for Media Mail, which costs the same). So that's another reason to purchase your postage through eBay, in addition to the convenience.
EDIT: The above comments were directed at users in the United States, since this is the US discussion board. The same might not apply to shipping services which are purchase in Ireland.

You are in Ireland.........I presume the rules there are the same.........you do need a tracking number and if you print the label on ebay, it may be cheaper than getting it at the post office (at least it is cheaper here in the US).........

You don't have to use ebay shipping it is just more convenient for most sellers because you save a little bit of time and money. You won't have to stand in a post office line. Plus your tracking is loaded automatically which is less for you to do.

If you print labels through EBAY you pay "discounted postage rate". When you go to post office...you pay full retail for shipping.
