Post Office Delays?

Has anyone else noticed an overall weirdness shipping through USPS lately?

Some simple shipments take weeks or sit at a hub for several days before actual delivery. One of my own non-eBay packages went from Georgia to Nevada before making it to it's destination here in Florida.

It's mostly kinda funny, but has anyone else been noticing that lately?

I have not, but plenty of people posting here have.

I wish I could say funny but just lost $50, refund buyer after a 5 weeks, then it shows up. I've filed 3 find my package just this month, one being just yesterday. Also my INR metrics has always been below average, I'm a hair from from being high. None of it is my fault and the metrics don't go down when the package found.

... and it's our fault.

Every late or lost or damaged package ... our fault.

I probably shouldn't have said "funny", because as you say, it is definitely not. Just really strange lately.

Most of my shipments get through without a problem.  I've had a few slow downs on some packages, but they all have made it to my customers.  Overall with everything they have going against them, USPS is getting my stuff delivered.

This year has had more weather related events affect our nation.  Last time I looked Ebay has been releasing warnings and extended protections to sellers due to the weather events about every other week since the first of the year.  We've never had anything like this before.

USPS has lots of issues to work through, that is just a fact.  But overall for me, they do a great job.

Not your fault

But still your responsibility.

Just as it is for most other online retailers.

Yes, USPS has really sucked lately. I have had to reship items to my customers, file missing mail claims, and file for completely lost mail. Just received a check today from USPS for something they lost. I think it's time for Amazon to start its own delivery service, they have the infrastructure to do so.

@mam98031

Same here. Some of my packages are taking several days longer "in transit," but I've been lucky not to get any cross-country road trips. My customers have been patient as the USPS tracking updates the estimated delivery dates, so I have no INRs, and I've had no lost packages or porch pirate situations. Hope it continues.

I ship in colorful packaging, for what that's worth.

Ebay should adjust its delivery estimates, which I find overly optimistic.

Yes 100%

I also recently just had an item returned to me for having an incorrect address label, which they covered with a sticker, removing the sticker showed a perfectly good label with a perfectly good address 😐

Never had that happen before, usually it's just the shipping delays.

I assume you mean before a buyer purchases.  It is important for sellers to realize just as much as it is important for the buyers to realize the existence of the word ESTIMATED that appears before the dates.

Anything can happen regarding weather issues after an item is shipped that will affect that package.  And that is much of what we are experiencing these days.  Ebay sends out an announcement on a regular basis about yet another area of the US being severely impacted by one weather event or another.  It has been the most weather active winter I've seen since I've been selling on Ebay.  Not just for a few weeks, but month after month.  Event after event.

The package / stickers, likely say more than just incorrect address.  Sometimes it is no receptacle, bad address, no such street, or something.  IF this was returned by USPS, it does usually say more.

Also look at the tracking, it will often tell you why the package was being returned to the seller.  You are assuming it is a perfectly good address, but clearly there was an issue.

After you look at the tracking, notify your buyer that the item has been returned and why [once you discover the reason, as there is one].  Let them know you are willing to refund them in full less the original shipping and non recoverable fees [the FVF on the shipping you keep plus 40 cent per transaction fee].

If they still want the item, you can offer to relist it and they can purchase it again and give them a gentle reminder to correct their ship to address.

Well, not as much of a sightseeing tour as yours, but I just had one going just a little way from San Jose go to Seattle from San Jose rather than where it belonged.

To add insult to injury making it even later it had to pass through San Fran on the way back to San Jose before moving on to where it belonged. Would have been delivered on Saturday instead of Tuesday had it not gone "on tour".
