Poor Policy

I am trying to resolve this. But I cannot if the buyer does not answer me.
This is another case when a buyer knows if they put in a claim of not receiving a delivery this they can get the item for nothing.
Something must be done about this by eBay.
There should be more enforcement on the seller. Many know that if they do not respond to the seller they get to keep the item they purchased and the seller losses out.
Why does eBay not do something about this. This is unfair to the sellers on your site who fall subject to buyers who know how to manipulate the system to get stuff for free and cheat the sellers.
This is not only me. I am sure this is happening all of the time.
When buyers do not respond it is a sign that they want to cheat and steal from the seller. They know that they have a time clock set by eBay and when this time clock runs out then eBay gives them the stuff for nothing.
This is not right and something must be done about this. I am tired of this and i am sure I am speaking for other sellers who got gipped and sellers who will get gipped in the future and continue to get gipped as long as nothing is done about it.
UNHAPPY SELLER.

Re: Poor Policy

You don't win the case if the 3 day clock runs out before the buyer receives the item. I've lost so much money to these INR scammers its unreal.

If the tracking has shown movement within the past 10 days then the case is automatically extended to allow the item time to be delivered. The only way you lose an INR case is if the item has in fact not been delivered AND hasn't moved at all within the system in more than 10 days.

Re: Poor Policy

This has nothing to do with tracking, everything to do with ebay giving sellers stuff away for free. There is no such thing late delivery either, it does not exist. USPS does not guarantee delivery estimates.

ebay lies to buyers with garbage delivery estimates, then refunds them and lets them keep your stuff. This has happened to me so many times I've lost count.

A 3 day grace period is not long enough given the delivery date is merely an estimate.

@zobal99

Please come back and clarify.

  • What do you mean that the buyer won't answer you?
  • Presumably, you shipped an item to the buyer. Did the buyer open INR?
  • Did you respond to the case with the tracking number? (Is there a tracking number?)
  • If tracking shows delivery, the case will close in your favor.
  • If there's no tracking, you will lose the case.

Re: Poor Policy

There is no 10 day extension, its never once been offered to me, regardless of what tracking shows. My INR's always show movement through tracking, ebay doesn't care.

Years ago you used to be able to call in and get an extension, now they tell me they can't do that anymore.

Re: Poor Policy

The buyer opened a Not Received Claim?
You don't need to communicate.

If you used tracking, all you have to do is enter the tracking number, with its Proof of Delivery into the Claim and you win.

If the customer goes to Paypal or his credit card, you do the same.

If the payment was over $750 you need to have paid for Signature Confirmation, but again with that number you win.

Re: Poor Policy

Based on feedbacks received by the OP,  many items are received broken or not received at all. it looks like items are shipped in envelopes without tracking.

If that's the case, the buyer gets a refund.

Re: Poor Policy

I send most of my items without tracking , which is very very expensive here in Canada, starting at $12 for Local delivery. (Local is my own province plus the province next door.)

But.

I sell in  very honest categories, to customers who actually enjoy reading terms and following instructions.

And most of my shipments are low value. I do use tracking (even with Free Shipping enabled) when the item is more valuable and raise my asking price to allow for that.

I can see that selling to edgelords , scofflaws and the forgetful does present some problems with  INR demands, although if the customer remembers the transaction well enough to open a claim, surely he can remember receiving the product.

The problem would be with the first two groups.

It happens automatically when you upload the tracking to the case. I had to do it multiple times during Christmas 2020 when there were the massive postal delays. Didn't lose a single INR.

Once that 3 day period is up, ebay just let's the buyer keep your item without ever paying for it. Why anyone would find this acceptable is beyond me.

If you voluntarily refund the buyer before an INR is escalated to eBay and the item is delivered within 30 days of the case being closed, you are eligible for reimbursement from eBay on appeal. More details on how eBay is currently handling INR’s, including extensive details and documentation, can be found here

Re: Poor Policy

If buyer states item has not arrived yet, update the tracking for them and ask them to be patient. Tell them you are watching the tracking and will call USPS or whoever to get the package moving if it is stuck.

If buyer makes claim of non receipt when tracking shows delivered, and they start an INR case, enter the tracking number into the case so ebay can see te item is delivered.

If buyer says it says delivered but I did not get it, respond, I am calling USPS, etc to have them research where your package is. Please be patient and we will discover where it is if it is not delivered to you.

If USPS,etc, locates the package and they say it is delivered to the registered ebay address of the account holder. Tell them.

If USPS, says, package was found and it was misdelivered, see if USPS can get the item and redeliver to the customer. If they cannot, refund the buyer and file an insurance claim for lost/misdelivered package.

Re: Poor Policy

I wouldn't count on it. Appealing makes no difference, ebay has never willingly reimbursed me over INR's, not once.

Re: Poor Policy

I should have mentioned. This is an item that can go right into a mailing envelope and does not require a tracking label. The item cost less then the tracking label so I cannot use it.

Then buyers opening an INR is 100% on you as you CANNOT prove that the item was delivered. Nothing can be done. You either start shipping using tracking (as that is the ONLY seller protection in this scenario) or you chance what happened and can happen going forward.

After all- what proof do you have that you even shipped it much less it was delivered??

So, it's NOT a poor policy. It's a 'buyer protective' policy. If they didn't have that in place, sellers could supposedly ship things all the time and NEVER ship.
