Policy Violation Issued in Error

I am still trying to figure out the logic here……

I listed a “professional” leather jacket and mentioned in the title and description that it was made of goatskin.  About fifteen minutes later I received an email that my item has been removed for a “Animal Products” policy violation.  I read the policy statement and it said that certain items made from animals that are “endangered species” are not permitted on eBay. I completely agree with this policy.
Notwithstanding, goats are not exactly an endangered species.  In fact goatskin is the best leather for jackets because it resists abrasion the best and many better quality jackets are made from it.  I did a search on eBay for “Goatskin LeatherJackets” and received 1800 hits for items currently listed for sale. So why me?

I am a collector of professional and vintage leather jackets and know a thing or two about them.   I also happen to know that right now there is a major American leather jacket manufacturer who is producing goatskin leather jackets under contract to the U.S. Government.

It is my opinion someone over there is seriously misinformed and that whoever made this decision in this case was totally incorrect.

Is there a special department within eBay that deals with alleged policy violations?  I want to challenge this so-called “animal products” policy violation.

Can you please copy/paste the explanation? And post your title, description, and category listed in.

It's an automated removal... you can challenge it... and you can be told that it is not a violation and that you can relist it... only to have it taken down again.

Might be easier ways to go about listing it.

Set it aside for 6 months. Then make a completely new listing from scratch.  New photos, new title, everything.

Since you said goatskin leather before I would just avoid the phrase goatskin at all. I would just say goat leather.

I would also use the smallest description possible and avoid any item specifics related to goats.

Maybe the wrong violation was included in the email, I’ve seen it happen before.

Was the “professional” leather jacket anything like the border control official leather jacket you sold recently?

You were reported by another Seller who is probably selling the same item you have. Seller marked the "Animal Product" in their report. Do not relist it. That Seller has you on their radar. They will report it again. 2nd Violation could result in suspension. Sell it somewhere else. "Appeals" are non existent with reported items on ebay. Policy Violations are final. Do not risk it.

Setting the item aside for a while and coming back to it later usually solves most lunatic problems entirely. By the time you bring it back out 6 months later the lunatic will be focused on something else.
