Why are people using only AI generated descriptions for the items they are selling? They are a totally generic and many times inaccurate description of an item that doesn't give any details of the actual item for sale. Many times I have been interested in an item only to have to send messages to the seller to find out condition or other details of the item they are selling as the description provides nothing. I have decided to stop doing that and will no longer buy from people that only use AI generated descriptions.
You are losing money people! Please take the time to provide a detailed description of the actual item for sale!
Rant over 🙂

They are lazy and/or trying to cut down the time it takes to list something.

Great - more sales for me! I write my own descriptions.

AI descriptions are beyond worthless however the majority of buyers never read the description anyway and for many things it is totally unnecessary, all pertinent info can usually be put in the title, condition notes and item specifics.
Any info that you really want the buyer to see needs to be in the title or condition notes, On the majority of the things that I sell I simply use the title as the description because there is just nothing more to say.

And just as bad are users blindly accepting eBay's suggested item specifics that are also AI generated.
Search results are increasingly contaminated by listings with erroneous item specifics.

As soon as I see certain phrases such as "a must have" I know the description is AI and just click back out.

Every AI description I've seen reads just like the kind of keyword stuffed articles that were great for getting high search placement in... 2006. I'm pretty sure they're detrimental to your placement in today's search.

I agree ... I suspect the use of AI may be by lazy Sellers.

…absolutely agree… stupid asinine lines like… these shoes come in a size 9 so are practical and fashionable for the discerning modern man… WHAT??
I never buy anything that has this AI generated description…. This is NOT The Sale of the Century from the 1970s 😡

This is one I saw recently and screenshotted. It’s all fluff, no facts.

Ebay should have known this would result in inaccurate descriptions and more customer dis satisfaction. Its ridiculous.
What level of brain analysis thought this was a good idea.

" the majority of the buyers never read the description anyway!!!"
Have I landed on the Planet of the Apes !
What reality do I find myself !
Maybe in the things you sell it does matter. Description is with title, and pictures, everything .

I agree 1000% All it does is take from your Item Specifics and weave a fairy tale that sounds like a late night infomercial. It's embarrassing to think of the reputation we sellers are getting because of the empty, pointless descriptions out there now. Trouble is, I don't know if buyers realize when they're reading a canned AI listing.
If we have a used item, we need to LOOK at it, TEST it, INSPECT it, LEARN about it and then pass on all our findings to our customers. AI does none of that, and the majority of sellers using it fail to add any extra real information. And that's a BIG fail in my book. Maybe if you have something new in the package you might be able to get away with that, but I would like to see eBay totally ban the use of AI-generated descriptions for pre-owned items. When I read a sellers own description I get an idea of who I am dealing with, and that is extremely important to me. So, YES!! STOP USING AI GENERATED DESCRIPTIONS! thank you!

that is all too true. Borrowing everyones specifics, and titles often leads to massive threads of misinformation!!!
