Pending payment cancelled

An order came in showing pending payment. Ebay showed it was ready for shipment a few minutes later, but Paypal showed the transaction was cancelled and payment was reversed! After everything I have read here, I think the best thing for me to do now is cancel the order. Buyer has a higher feedback number than I do and is rated 100% like me, but feedback is marked private - I have never seen that either. I marked the item unpaid... if I hadn't just happenned to look at my Paypal account I would never have known and would have been out the money. Does this mean I will now have to check every single order and payment in Paypal before I ship???! I can't trust the money is in when it shows paid here now? Ugh!

Yes, you should always check the payment status in PayPal before you ship.

And ALL buyers have a 100% feedback rating.

There is no such thing as a negative f/b for a buyer.

there are quite a few cases like yours, buyer paid via paypal, shipped and then seller is notified that payment has been cancelled.

What happens is Paypal cancelled the payment, not the buyer-

when a buyer linked his credit cardto his Paypal account, and paid with bank transfer,Paypal advanced him the money since it figues if there is not enough money in his bank account,it can always turn around and charge his credit card.

Then it turns out he either have no money or close his bank account and his credit card is no good, then Paypal wants its money b ack, this is how seller got screwed.

is yours an expensive item or something worth scamming?

Absolutely, and that should always be your practice.

PayPal receives the payment, not eBay.

PayPal holds the account, not eBay.

PayPal proccesses transactions, not eBay.

Why in the world would any seller rely on eBay to give him an accurate picture of his PayPal account?

That is PayPal's job.

Pending payment cancelled

In all of the years that I've spent on ebay, I've never had this situation come up before. I've had pending payments that have all eventually clear and when ebay says it's ready to ship, then the payment had processed. When the payment did not go through, then ebay would have the item in waiting for payment. Clearly, this is a Paypal issue as you stated. I plan on following up with them.

I did send the buyer a message to let them know that the pending payment was cancelled, transaction id and notation by Paypal that the customer was the one to cancel the transaction. It may have been Paypal who cancelled and the customer's payment info was expired/incorrect/nsf, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I'll share what I find out from Paypal. If they can send me an email that states the item has been paid for, then they can also send the email that the transaction was reversed I think.

As has been previously stated, ALWAYS check to be sure the payment really is in your Paypal account.  Some will send a fake yYou've Been Paid Paypal notice and hope that you won't check and will just send the item to them.  If you don't check, you just ship the item without having been paid for it.

So I just got off the phone with Paypal.... it seems there is a problem in their system with regards to ebay payments. I've been informed that they are working on the problem and that I should be able to send the buyer an invoice on Monday for them to make the payment and things should be fixed by then.

Should make for an interesting weekend....

This could be one to mark up in the plus column in favor of the upcoming new direct payment system we'll be getting soon.

Thanks to all who have commented here. Here's to lots of sales to all - or at least by Monday.

Not really because when it's rolled out we won't have anyplace like PP to check if it really has been paid

In all the years I have spent on this board, I have read too many stories about sellers running into probleme when they rely on information about their PayPal accounts that they are being given by something other than the PayPal website.

Whenever I am spending ny money to ship one of my item to someone else, I always open a second browser window and log into PayPal so I can verify that the money is actually there.

Yep, you're either paid, or  you're not. No pending payments, they either approve or decline at the point of sale.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.
