Im talking to a person who's buying the Nerf gun I sold, and he said that he payed, but I haven't gotten gotten anything in my PayPal account though, and it's been 2 days. I asked him to make sure the money went out of his account and he said it did. However, Im not 100% sure my PayPal was linked to ebay, but the 2 account to share the same email. This is my first sell, and I'm new, so do you guys know when I should be getting the money, or should I ask him to do it again? Thabks

No one here can answer that for sure. But generally speaking, there is not any meaningful "delay" between a buyer paying and the money showing up in the seller's PayPal account.
Here are a couple possibilities:
1) The buyer is lying, and trying to trick you into shipping the item before you get paid.
2) You did not have the correct email account listed on your item, and the buyer's PayPal payment is sitting unclaimed in limbo somewhere.
re. #2 above - PayPal allows you to pay someone without a PayPal account by simply sending it to an email address. The money sits unclaimed until the person with that email address creates an account and claims it. Until it is claimed, the person who sent it can cancel the payment.
I would suggest asking your buyer to check his paypal payment and verify the email address and whether it has been claimed or not.
All possible, but I suspect it's a case of the money having been sent, but since the seller is new, he may not be able to access the money due to PayPal's usual hold on funds for new sellers and is unaware of that restriction/distinction.
Your suspicion is based on a misunderstanding of the "hold". When a payment is made to a PayPal account, the seller can ALWAYS see the transaction, even if his money is being held. He just can't spend or move it. Would you ship an item if you funds were being held, and you couldn't see an actual transaction? I hope not.
If there is no transaction in the PayPal account, then "lucky's" list of possibilities is correct.
Sorry, @thatsallfolks. I never said that I don't think @luckythewinner's possibilities were incorrect. And I don't have any misunderstanding about what a "hold" means in terms of PayPal funds. However, I suspect the OP does.
He's asked when can he get his money? By his later response/s, it's obvious he was unaware PayPal puts a hold on a new seller's funds. Very possible that the money is in his account, but he can't access it. That's my point -- and the reason why I have asked him repeatedly to confirm/deny he can see any trace of an incoming payment into his PayPal account and/or the status on his Sold Listings page.
OP clearly stated:
" I haven't gotten gotten anything in my PayPal account"
I don't understand how you can misinterpret that.
You're also not up to date on what releases the funds.
Well obviously @thatsallfolks, I am a total idiot and so is PayPal:
But that's okay. I'm glad I was able to make your day.
Responders here have been aware for several years that the documentation you posted is out of date. Why hasn't PayPal fixed it? Who knows? Feedback does NOT release funds.
That doesn't make you an idiot, it just makes you not current. Continuing to insist you're correct will only mislead people who come here for help. Please don't do that.

lavadia,
I have a related issue. I haven't sold an item on ebay in years so I'm a little rusty. I sold an Ipad this morning and have yet to receive the payment as well. Could I just email the buyer with my paypalme link instead and await payment that way? My accout settings were updated and email address was correct.
This buyer initially contacted me via text message which I thought was odd saying that he needed my paypal address to move forward with the transaction yet he marked the item as payment received already. Thanks in advance.

You are being ripped off.

If you do that, you'll receive a fake "PayPal" email that says you've been paid, but you won't see the money in your account until you provide proof of shipping.
In other words, your "buyer" is a thief, and you're not getting paid. Go through the nonpayment process to get your fees back, and then list your item in Fixed Price format, without Best Offer, and with the Immediate Payment Required option.

Hi @mdlgirl
No, don't send the buyer a link to your PayPal account nor communicate with him outside of eBay messaging. He is trying to scam you.
Proof of that is the fact that he went in and marked the payment status on the item as "Paid" and that he is requesting you send him your PayPal address. What he will do after that is send you a fake email that looks like it came from PayPal saying the item has been paid for hoping you will send him the item. You'll then be out your money and the item.
It's a common scam, especially for "hot" items like electronics/computers/cell phones. He's counting on the fact you're inexperienced and you'll be so happy you sold your item so quickly. Kudos to you for coming here first before things went any farther.
How did this guy contact you? Through eBay messaging? Hopefully, he did as eBay will be able to see his messages which clearly affirm he was trying to scam you. His messages will also provide evidence he attempted to take the sale off-eBay -- something that is against eBay rules which will get you in trouble with eBay.
For the time being, do nothing. Do not continue to communicate with this guy. Let us know where the communication took place regarding this transaction first, and then we can advise more effectively from there.

It now says I have money pending in my PayPal account. How do I get it into my account?
04-06-2018 08:48 AM
Probably. I sent him an invoice and listed my email address in the comments section. I'm going to wait for his response.

ok thanks for the heads up!!

Buyers cannot mark anything as 'Paid'. Only 'Payment sent'.
Only the seller can mark it 'Paid'.

If the transaction says 'OK to Ship' and 'Eligible for seller protection', then you ship it. If you are shipping using ebay labels, there should be a checkbox to 'pay later'(which will come out of your funds when released).
If you ship at the PO, you will need to enter the tracking # into ebay and possibly Paypal. 3 days after delivery, or 21 days, whichever comes first, your funds will be available.
If you ship thru paypal, you would probably need to add the tracking # into ebay.

"It now says I have money pending in my PayPal account"
Is that information from an email?
Or did you actually log-in to your PayPal account and see the payment?

You need to be VERY clear with the info you provide, if you want correct responses.
WHERE does it say you have money pending? An email? On eBay? In your PayPal account? Somewhere else?
Do you have a transaction showing IN YOUR PAYPAY ACCOUNT?
If so, click on it, and look in the details. What does it say under "Seller Protection"?

{sigh} Wish you hadn't done that, but okay, the next thing you will probably get is an email that looks suspiciously like it came from PayPal. Don't open it or click on it, or delete it. Just ignore it for now.
LOGIN to your PayPal account and see if the money is there. (It won't be, but please do check.)
If the money is indeed not there, don't communicate with the buyer. You've already sent an invoice and that's sufficient. Once TWO FULL days have elapsed after the listing ended you can open an Unpaid Item Dispute with eBay. Here's a screenshot from the eBay Help Center outlining the process:
ONCE THE CASE HAS BEEN CLOSED, you can relist your item. However, be sure to do so as a Fixed Price Listing (not an auction) with Immediate Payment Required. That will help weed out scammers like the one you're dealing with now. However, it won't weed them all out -- you are likely to have more problems trying to sell an iPad here. Unfortunately, that's the reality of trying to sell such items on eBay.
