When you sell an item locally can you get paid through paypal or do you need to be paid cash? It seems you need a tracking number and showing delivered for paypal to accept you received or is it different in this type of situation?

You don’t need tracking on local pickup only listings. You are required to accept PayPal but you can state in the listing that you prefer cash. Cash is the way to go on local pickups.

If you have set up your listing as local pick up and cash payment as an option, then the buyer can select Buy It Now, or if they win the auction, they’ll be able to select Cash on pickup at checkout. (Policy link below.) If the buyer paid thru PayPal, then you have the burden of needing online viewable delivery confirmation to protect against an unscrupulous person opening an Item Not Received case.

This is not true, buyers have no protection in terms of delivery on local pickup items and that's even if they do not pick it up.

@fashunu4eeuh Dang it ...I was hoping that this board myth had finally been put to rest, but I see that is not the case...that bad advice just keeps popping up like a whack-a-mole game, lol!
Per eBay's Trinton:
5. Is tracking required for protection in an item not received claim related to local pickup?
No, tracking would not be needed. If the listing has local pickup as a "shipping method" and the buyer selects this, there would be no tracking expected. Likewise, if it is clear in the messages that the buyer and seller arrange local pickup, no tracking would be needed for an item not received case.

@fashunu4eeuh The seller does not have the burden of needing tracking. Neither eBay OR paypal cover the buyer in local pickup INRs. This is stated in the MBG and the PayPal buyer protection policy.

False.
False ONLY if it is a LPO only with no shipping selected. Listings that offer both shipping and LPO, the DC applies regardless.
