Did you mean:

Pay-to -Promote

I'm newer at selling (long-time buyer), and I'm testing the waters with the whole pay-to-promote thing. My question is this, isn't it likely that a seller will increase the price a little if they chose to pay-to-promote? I mean, that's what I feel like doing if it comes to that. Yes, I know it depends on what you're selling. I'm selling collectibles with a known following, so I know I don't necessarily have to pay-to-promote to get found. But, I may sell other things, so I'd appreciate knowing opinions across the board.

No offense, really. I mean, I get what you're saying. When content mills greatly reduced the price to buy online content, long-standing writers screamed at those writers saying they should all band together and refuse to lower their fees. (Cough! - price fixing) The same thing happened to photographers, now that anyone can take a good pic with their phone.  Platforms like eBay, and the internet and technology in general, have greatly changed the landscape for selling goods and services. It has made it very competitive. Is it going away? Nope.

I find it amusing (again, no offense) how as sellers, we tend to want to get what we think our collectible is "worth," but as buyers, we want to find the best deal we can. Have you ever paid a seller more than they asked because you knew it was worth more? Probably not.

Do you ever shop at big box stores? Don't they threaten any "Mom-n-Pop" stores actually remaining because they sell things so much cheaper?

It's not just you, it's a prevalent attitude I see among sellers here. They feel entitled to get what they're asking, but change their tune when they're the buyer. As buyers, we appreciate a competitive market place. As sellers, not so much, right?!

And, yes, I know darn well I just ruffled lots of feathers of entitled sellers reading this. Don't care.

That is hypocrisy.  It is a prominent phenomenon these days.  It is prevalent in society, religion, and even the law.   What's good for me is not necessarily what's good for you.

The way I handle promoted fees is this:  whatever it costs me is what I tack on the sales price of the goody.  If that makes it cost more than what I can sell it for - I take it to the landfill and find something to sell that people what to pay for. It's really not hard.

The TOTAL cost to ME for the product, plus a profit margin = sales price.

@chariot_badges

I don't think the other poster was suggesting anything different.  I know it is what I tell sellers all the time when the conversation goes that direction.  It is surprising to me how many sellers are willing to take the cost of Promoted listings from their profits.  But there are a lot of them.
