Partial Refund on a Return Request?

I have free returns, which use to qualify you to offer a partial refund, but when I click on Refund Now (without a return), it defaults to a full refund.  Or do I have to click on go to the next page to see the option?  Don't want to do that unless I am sure that it just won't process the full refund.

Of course now that a return is open, I can't use the refund button in the Seller Hub, so what do I do with a buyer that has agreed on a partial refund?

Well it looks like I have returns accepted, but not free returns for that listing, so that answers that.

Why does free returns matter?

I know I have offered partial refunds on non free return listings.

Are you sure it's not because of the reason for return that the option doesn't show up?

I think the option might be on 'Refund Now'. But don't listen to me, don't want you to issue full refund.

You can always click on "Next", to know what next is, just worry when you see "submit".

If no return is open, you can do it regardless of whether you offer free returns or not.

Partial refunds can ONLY be done 'once in a blue moon' so if you have been making a 'habit' out of it; you will be cut off.

Also; FREE returns do NOT qualify for the 'up to 50%' and should NOT be used by TRS sellers (and again, you cannot 'abuse')

@dqdistribution

Free returns matter because it allows a TRS to deduct an amount out of the refund, it's not like offering a partial to a buyer to convince them to not start or close a return.

Partial Refund on a Return Request?

The OP said 'offer' in the first post.

I'm aware of the partial refund of TRS, but that isn't an offer.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the one where it sends a message to the buyer and if they click 'accept' it refunds the partial amount and the return closes.

Yes, it was an offer the buyer agreed to accept to offset the damage UPS did so the buyer doesn't have to return the order and close the return request.

Yeah not sure why that one isn't showing up, it shouldn't rely on 'free returns' like the TRS partial.

If buyer willing, you could probably issue outside of return if they close it, but that is risky for them because you might never issue it.

Don't know what to tell you, sorry.

1. When "a return is open" you would have 3 options for a not-as-described return request.

2. Doesn't option 2 issue a full refund with no return required, as you've noticed?

ma647837_0-1687403051835.jpeg

3. And option 3 should allow you @rfmtm to offer a partial refund with no return required -- or is that not available on this return request?

@rfmtm

You had said that on another thread.  I'm not so sure this is accurate.

How to offer a partial refund

To offer a partial refund:

  1. Go to your Returns dashboard.
  2. Select View return details beside the item.
  3. Select Offer a partial refund and then Continue.
  4. Enter the amount you wish to offer the buyer.
  5. You can choose to add a message to the buyer.
  6. Select Send offer.

You can only offer a partial refund once, and the buyer can choose to accept or reject your offer.

How to handle a return request as a seller | eBay

Unless I missed it, I did not see any requirement for a certain return policy.

Partial Refund on a Return Request?

@ma-647837   I don't even get to that screen.  After clicking on see Return Details, the first screen offers to either have ebay send a return label, you send a return label, or you already sent a return label.  Below that when you click on Refund Now (without a return label), the next page only confirms the order total and the full refund amount with no options to edit or select otherwise.

I was not able to try @mam98031  suggestion, as I got the buyer to cancel the return, then the option @ma-647837 posted appear as usual and I was able to do a partial return from the Seller Hub.

This has happened to me before.

When there is a return open, you lose the ability to do a partial refund.

Explain this to the buyer.

If you can talk the buyer in to closing the return, then give the the partial refund you both agreed on.

Good luck!

Partial Refund on a Return Request?

@inhawaii  Yes, when the buyer closed the return, then I was able to process the partial refund as usual.

This was an INR return for shipping damage that was automatically approved because I accept returns, but in the past you could offer a partial refund to cover repair and the buyer could either accept or decline it.  So something isn't working right here.
