I sold an item a few years ago, I can't find the person I sold it to because the history on Ebay doesn't go back that far, anyway the item didn't have the lid, but I thought I sent the lid, I found the lid later but couldn't get in touch with the person because Ebay doesn't have the information from that long ago. So I put this up for sale for .99 for the person that bought the item to hopefully see and they can have the lid. Well it has been on Ebay for about a year and someone just bought it, it isn't the same person so I feel bad selling it to someone else, what should I do? plus, I offered it for .99 only because it was for that first person, now that it isn't I don't feel they should get such a deal. What should I do about this also?

It is very nice for you to be so concerned about a previous buyer. However, you put an item up for sale, so you should complete that sale. The person that originally bought your item with no lid has probably found a replacement by this point. The person to whom you sold a lid is probably in a similar situation. Do the right thing and ship the item.

What should you do? Absolutely nothing .... because that's all you can do.
It's nice of you to be concerned though. Good karma for you.

Ship it to the person who bought it within your specified handling time.

Mail it off to the buyer. It's what you promised you would do when you listed it. I once had a similar thing happen when I listed a model railroad car with a missing piece. After the sale (an auction for a whopping $3.75), I found the missing piece. I thought I'd try to make the buyer's day by mailing it to him gratis. I messaged him to give me his address so I could send it but he said not to bother. Surprised me a bit but it also saved me 58 cents!

@aerni46517 if u put it up for sale and sold it to someone other than the person u r looking for, then u already made your decision on what to do.

Yeah, I was just making the point that even if she could find the buyer, the buyer might not care about getting the lid, even for free.

It might not help but I print a extra copy of the packing list and shipping label so I have a copy for myself. This way if a problem comes up I have the backup copy to use. It might waste paper but it has come in handy sometimes.

Thank you all. You are all correct, I am sending it. I just didn't intend to "sell it" so I am glad I did have shipping on it. Thanks for your time for replying and all of your help!!!

Sounds good. Your buyer bought it fair and square, after all.
Consider that after all this time, your original buyer may have already located a replacement lid anyway. (You'd be amazed what obscure pieces you can find here with a little patience and time.) The person to whom you sold the lid may be a friend or relative of the original buyer. Don't think about this any further.
P.S. For future reference: You should find that at the time of the original sale, eBay sent a payment confirmation or shipping confirmation (or both) to the email address you have associated with your eBay account, and that has the buyer's name and address on it. If you still have those emails (I use a dedicated account and never delete anything), your original sale record should still be there.

Looking at your listing you actually have to put $1 in the package to match your own description.
"If you see this, please purchase this and I will send it to you along with the $1 you paid. I just don't always see my messages and I don't want to miss this."
