POSSIBLE BUYERS SCAM

so i had a radio for auction and it was up to around 150 and 2 bidders. all happened first day of sale.  there was just over 12 hours left and bidder retracted his bid. reason accidentally overbid entered wrong amount i forget the exact wording. so now its back to its starting price. i did a check on the two bidders they both sell radios and both live in the same state towns very close to each other. i am wondering if they bid it up to scare people away with it being high price right off the bat. then they cancel right before the last 12 hours so i can't end the auction. now the guy that retracted his bid kept bidding up a couple dollars here and there over the last 12 hours. item was at 150 and he retracted and he was not even the high bidder when he retracted. then bid a little here and there. if he knew that it was already higher than he wanted to bid why would he even bid again. maybe he thinks he's being smart.

i got this got feeling that either there working to together or they are 2 friends that maybe seen they were bidding on the same item and other guy canceled the bid so his friend could get the radio cheaper. thats just a gut feeling cause it all doesn't make much sense.  took him 6 days to realize he entered wrong bid.

any thoughts from you fellow ebay member's.  radio ended up going for a little over a 100. i made good profit but something is fishy.

If the same bidder came back to bid again after retracting bids, either that bidder doesn’t know what they’re doing (low or no feedback), or they may be “in cahoots” to control the outcome of the auction.  Since they both sell radios, I would assume they’re messing up your auction to get it cheap.  I think you can still end it by putting (error in listing) as a reason, then changing the listing a bit…….. and list it with a fair buy it now price.  Auction collusion is on the rise these days.

Well, we know it wasn't a "wrong bid," because among other things, he has no fewer than 67 bid retractions over the past year. I would have bounced him as soon as I saw his retraction count, but that's water under the bridge now. (Your eventual winner has one bid retraction over the same time period.)

Just curious: was Retraction Boy ever in the lead, or was he only ever in second place behind your eventual winner? Reason I ask is that he might have failed to uncover the eventual winner's high bid, but then stuck in a bunch of lower bids at the end that he knew would not win, but would at least look like he was trying to plug in a "corrected" bid and then go higher (knowing full well that he no longer had any risk of winning for too much money).

Don't overthink it.

Add Retraction Member to your BBL.

In the future check your bidders as auctions run and if they have many retractions maybe cancel their bid(s) and put them on your BBL.

He most likely did that to kill off the interest of other interested parties. If people saw it hit 150 last week they probably deleted it from their watch list and never looked at it again.

I would recommend doing But It Now instead of auctions to avoid this nonsense.

It could be the same person with 2 accounts.

Bid shielding is what this is. Push the price to lose interest, and the second or even first bidder may get it cheap after the retraction.

Auction interference is what it is: but eBay does not seem to do anything about it now days.

Just by the retraction number stated in this topic is is easy to see its an interference user.

i was able to see the bid retractions and bid history only if i was not signed in and was able to click on his name and went right to bid history. his name was not there but has 2 letters and stars but i know who it was. your right he has 67 bid retractions in a year.  5 this month. the other buyer bids on all the same categories and seen a few of the same sellers possible, i can only see it like  i****e.  can i report him if so what would be the best way.
