I recently sold 3 items because I needed the money to buy something else.
I have a “payment must be received within 24 hours” notice on my auctions.
out of my 3 items sold I’m still waiting for payment 3 days later on one and over 24 hours later for the other. I have contacted both buyers and received no reply. I don’t mind waiting a day or two to be paid usually if there is communication but not being paid and no communication is infuriating to me, especially when I need the money.
why does EBay allow this? It seems I have no option but to sit and wait?
I’m tempted to just relist the items. Why won’t EBay allow sellers to leave negative feedback for deadbeat buyers? At least this say sellers would have a head’s up.
I keep checking my email to see if I’ve been contacted or paid and nothing and it really is making me angry at this point.
I’m not a person who runs a store, I just use EBay to sell things I don’t need occasionally and I’m really getting I sick of not being able to do anything about dedbeats.

List at fixed price with immediate payment required. The item doesn't come down til they pay.....

You really need to file unpaid item disputes against those "buyers" if they haven't paid within 48 hours of the end of the listing. It's the only way you'll get your FVFs back, and it will give the buyer a strike on their account. Many sellers set their buyer requirements to prohibit buyers from bidding or buying from them if said buyer has two strikes in a 12-month period (although there are other settings as well).
Resolving unpaid items with buyers
So, eBay doesn't allow it--they provide sellers with the tools to resolve the issue. You have to learn to use them.
P. S. You stated you need the money from the transactions "to buy something else." Just keep in mind that buyers have 30 days to get a refund from eBay and 180 days to get a refund if they used PayPal for their purchase. You'd be obligated to come up with the refund money if that happened.

EBay doesn’t proved sellers with anything. The auction was 5 days....I have to wait 2 days to file...,,then I have to wait 4 more days before I can close the item out.
thats 11 days for a five day auction and still no payment!

If I were going to sell at a fixed price I’d use other sites.
I’m selling guitar gear, plenty of places to sell that at fixed prices.
One item I sold is a pedal that is fairly rare and has a wide price range which is why I went with the auction.
the other is a common pedal and i
probably should have just sold it on FB Marketplace or CL or Reverb.
Ive been on EBay for 15 years but it’s just getting worse and worse and unless you’re done huge seller EBay does not seem to care. Of course they still want their pound of flesh from you.

If your auction says “payment must be made within 24 hours” if you haven’t been paid in 24 hours you should the able to void the transaction.
like I said I don’t mind waiting an extra day or two if the customer asks but no payment and no contact should be on the buyer, not the seller.

eBay's payment time frame has been in place for well over a decade. If you want to establish a different timeline, it is your job to figure out how to enforce it. eBay will not help you circumvent their policies.
why does EBay allow this?
I suspect it is because eBay recognizes that buyers may have a life and are not waiting by their computer for auctions to end. Again, eBay's payment time frame has been in place for well over a decade.
It seems I have no option but to sit and wait?
Incorrect.
You have the option of listing your items as fixed price with immediate payment required.
You also have the option file an unpaid item dispute after two days.
I’m tempted to just relist the items.
That would be flirting with disaster. Canceling transactions for "out of stock" is one of the easiest ways to get suspended or terminated.
I keep checking my email to see if I’ve been contacted or paid and nothing and it really is making me angry at this point.
Whether or not you consider yourself a "business", you should approach eBay as a professional would. And a professional does not get emotionally involved in transactions with complete strangers. It is unhealthy and serves no purpose.
Why won’t EBay allow sellers to leave negative feedback for deadbeat buyers? At least this say sellers would have a head’s up.
Because eBay and every deadbeat buyers knows that it takes 30 seconds to create a new account and wipe the slate clean. Leaving a negative for a buyer satisfies the seller's ego and accomplishes almost nothing else.
I’m really getting I sick of not being able to do anything about dedbeats.
Aside from filing an unpaid item dispute, there is nothing you can do about deadbeats.

Oh, buyers “have a life.
so they have time to surf Ebay, time to bid but when it comes time to pay “they have a life”.
That’s convenient. I wonder if that would work on all my bills?
I really should be more lenient because hey, buyers may just not have time to pay for the things they buy. It’s really time consuming after all.
thanks for the intelligent reply! I’ll remember the “buyers have a life”next time I have a bill!

And speaking of not having a life....16.9k posts?

I wouldn't suggest applying any of the 'logic' you are faced with on these boards to anything outside of eBay.

Yeah something tells me “hey buyers have lives” won’t fly in the real world.
I’d really hate to inconvenience a buyer on eBay by having them actually pay for what they buy or respond to messages.
I wonder if he realizes everyone...not just buyers....have lives?

You may be able to use the winning bids of those auctions to help you set a Buy-It-Now (BIN) price.
Don't forget to also set Immediate Payment Required (IPR).

There tend to be a lot of excuses made here to justify things which are clearly unethical but which we have no control over. Ebay is a game to a lot of people, where bullying/baiting someone into breaking the rules is a source of entertainment. Don't fall into that trap.
Lucky gives some good advice about not getting emotional and keeping it professional. In other words no matter how poorly someone acts, it's each of our own responsibilities to continue acting in an ethical manner. Also, separately in your real world 'bills' example, if your water bill is due on the 1st, does the municipality flip out on you and threaten to shut off your water or do they send you a notice a few weeks later?
Not meant to clown you - if anything I sympathize as I've faced some frustrating situations with ebay just like this. I often find their rules vague and disrespectful to good sellers.

Does the water company bid
on how much I’ll pay for water?
it’s clearly a totally different thing. Try buying something and telling them “I’ll pay for it when I have time, I have a life you know”?
And water bills have due dates...if you don’t pay by the due date there are consequences, first late fees then they shut your water off.
”Professional has nothing to do with it. I’m not a “professional” seller first off...second expecting to be paid isn’t “unprofessional”.
I didn’t even read all that Lucky guy’s post, the snarky tone was rude (“unprofessional” even? ) and once he used “buyers have lives” as
an excuse for non payments why would I care what else he had to say?

I see. I did try to help but I have learned a lesson myself today.
