No more eBay

I sold an item on eBay on Tuesday when eBay took the customer’s funds.

Was told the funds were available on Wednesday.

Also, the “Free Listing” Fees take up 10% of the selling price.

Now, being told the funds were transferred and the funds won’t be available for another 1-3 days.

EBay is pulling the old 5 days for checks to clear scam.

They are also not forthcoming with the actual fees when you put the item up for sale.

So, after 24 years and a 100% buyer/seller rating, it’s time to tell eBay to get out.

Fee's are fully transparent and this information is available to all sellers up front.

12.9% fvf on item + shipping + sales tax..........

New and returning sellers are subject to fee holds, again something that is advised up front.

  • New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while we confirm that their items have been successfully delivered. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. In limited circumstances, new sellers may experience holds for up to 21 days

what scam?

Everything you whined about is spelled out very clearly and available for you to examine prior to selling.......

does anybody take responsibility for their own actions anymore? or is it always someone else's fault?

No, Monica.

This isn’t how companies treat customers of over two decades.

They lie by not being explicit about the new fees and how they are acting like banks by accruing interest on funds.

My “Available Funds” from yesterday are now in a financial aether; gone from my “Available Funds” status…

The buyer is equally bewildered at this drastic shift.

This is not the eBay I signed on with.

I’m certain others will agree with me.

Ahem.

I've been on eBay for TWENTY FOUR YEARS with a 100% buyer/Seller transaction record.

So, I can appreciate what you are saying.

What I am saying is that if this is the new policy eBay is embracing, I will find another way to sell my items.

"....What I am saying is that if this is the new policy eBay is embracing, I will find another way to sell my items....."

That was not how you opened your thread at all....

We'll be glad to help explain stuff...there have been changes...some good, some not so good

but the "basics" are still the same...you list/sell/get money

free listings are "free" (not 10%)

Selling Fees are 12-15% of the total sale

that pesky .30 transaction fee is still there

Payouts schedules are where the major changes have been. To protect you and themselves, if you have not sold any items for over 90-days there are mandatory hold times for the completion of the sale. These "hold" time decrease as you sell more frequently until they are virtually nil.  (The initial hold times seem to vary, not sure why) YOUR funds are then transferred to your checking account that you setup with your account.

There are numerous thread and help pages that explain this.

After your funds become available it takes 1-3 days to clear into your account. They don't transfer funds on week-ends.

You can accept that or not.  But you can't change it.

What does that mean?  None of my buyers were affected (unless I raised my prices) by any changes in payment processing or final value fees charged.  If they paid, I shipped.

24 years and you don't know the fees yet?  The fees are very transparent here.  When you list they even tell you what you will be charged if it sells at that price at the bottom of the page where the submit listing button is.  Not sure how they could make it more transparent.  If you want really opaque fees, just start using FBA on "the river".  They charge you for toilet paper when you use your own bathroom over there and it will show up as "other charge" on your statement!

The old "5 days for a check to clear scam" is not a scam, it is what the ACH sometimes takes for payment to be transferred.  eBay doesn't have any control over that.

Looks like you haven't sold anything in a very long time and thus you are treated the same as any new seller.   And then you sell a $400 item.  What?!?  You expect Ebay to instantly release the funds to you and then be on the hook if there is an issue with this sale.  Of course Ebay is going to hold you funds, probably for 21 days, until the transactions appears to have completed successfully.

And rest assured  that with minimal due diligence you can easily find the actual fees when you put the item up for sale.  There is plenty of valid reasons to criticize Ebay, but their fee program is not one of them as it is clearly stated.

As a fairly new seller, I equate the "Free listing" like this:

If I walk into a store - it's free (it costs you nothing to list). If I leave the store with something (like a sale of one of my listings!) I'm charged.

Delayed funds are just a test in the beginning - if you are an honest seller (lots of not-so-honest ones on Ebay in general) and nothing goes wrong with the buyer/sale (like a return, etc.) then those funds are available for the return. Those funds are also available to you for purchasing postage. Once everything clears - the money shows up in your bank account. Eventually, the funds are made more available in less time.

Here's what selling on Ebay does: It makes it very, very simple. I don't have to think about state taxes to charge, advertising my item, the percentage that goes to Ebay (most consignment shops charge 30% +), I get a concise packing slip and a verified address to send to and buying postage couldn't be easier.

There are a  lot of little issues that come up - but this community is an amazing resource to come to when those things do come up.
