New Seller Scam?

Purchased an item from an account with 5000+ reviews, almost 100% feedback.  And of course right after I notice origin country as China.  I look at their feedback and it’s mostly bullsh*t electronics and nothing in the realm of what I just purchased.  I also notice they have not a single other listing.

I Figured I’d just wait until the package gets to me, verify the items are fakes and file a claim.  I live in a small town and am actually home right now on paternal leave since we just had a child, so I’m here when the mail arrives every day.  I check my informed delivery notification on usps and oddly enough this is the only package with no scanned picture, and it now says “item held at post office by customer request”, which I never requested.  They also never attempted delivery because I was here all day.

I’m going to run up to the post office in the morning and see what they say.  I’m 100% sure this is a scam, just not quite sure how they did it.  I’m assuming the fact that it says “delivery attempt made” is enough for them to win a INR case.

Maybe it's postage due? There's no Postage Due button on the USPS scanners, so they have to pick another button. And yes, eBay considers Attempted Delivery to be delivered.

Evidence of successful delivery
We require all of the following to prove a successful on-time delivery:

Re: New Seller Scam?

It's very common for a carrier to claim all their packages as delivered at the beginning of shift, even if by end of shift they are still with him. Remember the current Postmaster General forbade carriers from doing overtime to finish a busy day.

It's not a good thing to do, but it happens.

It's very likely the package is exactly where you were told it is-- at the post office.

I would be most suspicious of the single listing than of the country or product.

Sellers do change product lines, especially those who are selling whatever they can find. On another account I have almost entirely switched from selling books which are no longer in demand to selling sewing patterns which are steady sellers.

But a single listing is not how most Chinese sellers operate.

Is there a time gap since the last FB was left? If so, the account may be hijacked.

Or not.

It will be interesting to see what you actually receive.

Re: New Seller Scam?

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Remember that even if they are able to prevail in a INR eBay case you can turn around a file a NAD chargeback with your CC company despite the fact that you don't have the items. EBay and the postal service says you do.
