I recently received a negative feedback for an item I sold on eBay. The buyer claimed the item didn't function correctly. My question is how long will a negative feedback show on my feedback? Thanks!!

It will show on the seller's feedback history for eternity.
It will be counted in his feedback percentage for 12 months.

@superiorsalesnc If you had NO communication with the Buyer prior them slapping down the neg FB then message them and let them know you see they are unhappy with the transaction and eBay encourages "Trading partners" (their term for a Buyer and Seller) to work things out before taking action. But by leaving the FB without messaging you gave you know opportunity to address any issues OR recommend that they pursue a return for a refund.
Let them know that things can still be worked out and that your hopes are to find a mutually beneficial solution and then have them consider "revising" the Feedback. Sellers can send up to 5 Feedback revision forms annually.
Your Feedback % is calculated on the last 12 consecutive months, so it will be that long before that one FB no longer impacts your FB % on your listings. That FB will always be on your record but as time goes by it moves further down the list.
Another point you can make, and this is true, is that other Sellers look at what kind of FB Buyers leave for other Sellers and if they see a recent neg FB left for someone they may just cancel a sale not wanting to risk getting bad feedback ...

Excellent guidance, but
Feedback seems to indicate that possibly there was an attempt to communicate, but possibly the feedback is misleading.

Most important thing...is how you respond to customer's negative feedback. Other customers will read your response to determine "how you would treat them" after a purchase is made.

yea if you respond to negative feedback dont use profanity, threaten them and just state you side of the transaction and word it so a normal thinking person reading it will know what the real story is. some buyers give out negs like m & ms . some give them because their just mad at life in general. you just gotta read between the lines sometimes when reviewing the feedback

Here's how that neg and your response look to future buyers:
You sold an item new in the box. You didn't take it out of the box. You didn't try it out. You don't know whether it works or not. The buyer says it didn't work.
The buyer does not understand eBay's MBG and believes that your "Does Not Accept Returns" means he has no recourse and that he is out all the money he spent on something he cannot use.
You not only let him believe that, you actually suggest he's too unintelligent to know to charge the device and you chastise him for leaving a neg.
I say take Mr. Lincoln's good advice and see if you can still work something out with this buyer.

I moved to "MERCARI" It's a learning curve but shows more grace than Ebay. I have given Ebay thousands of $$ in fee's and 10% fees on all sales. They show no grace, nor are they willing to help n any way.
Since 2016 I have received one erroneous negative bringing my 100% down to 98%, my sales have dropped tremendously. During this **bleep** Convid of fear and propaganda, the big corp are making all the $$$$. The small business' are crumbling, we need to stick together and buy from eachother, regardless.

You moved to Mercari, but you believe we need to stick together and buy from each other, except not on eBay?

1 red hickie won't have any effect on your selling performance rating at all . Everyone gets one every now and then deserved or not. Most people, like all the people I know, never received all 100% on our report cards all the way through from K to 12 and beyond. and never received a participation trophy or a student of the month bumper sticker ( didn't have them way back then)
