Hello;
I am selling something, and somebody already paid for it, but at the same time this person sent the following message:
I don't want to be negative, but if this hlf doesn't arrive like a brand new one from ampeg, you are going to be the one that makes ebay eat it.
Sorry it could sounds funny, but as English is not my fist language I would like someone to tell me the meanings of the buyer's message.
Thank you

It's a 450.00 electronic item and you listed it as New
which means it must perform exactly like a new one.
Pack it very well before you ship.
Use insurance, make sure the money is in your Paypal account before you ship
only use the address that Paypal says to ship to
and I'd ignore the message and just ship the item.

This message was a good thing.
The buyer is warning you that they can be trouble.
This is the time to tell the buyer every single time it's been turned on.
Every scratch. How old it is. What happened to the box. Where you got it. Would they like more pictures?
Be as honest as possible, and give the buyer an out.
Tell them that they can ask to cancel, money refunded, no penalty,
Better now than when they file a Not As Described.

You listed it as "new" that means in the original unopened package.
You should have listed as "New other" that can be out of the package.
The buyer can win a SNAD just based on your photos.
You have way under estimated the shipping cost.

two thoughts:
1: It is not at all unusual to get a 4x10 speaker cabinet brand new with no box. Many music stores discard the shipping carton that speaker cabinets come in, because they simply don't have room to keep all those boxes. Not having the box does not mean it's not "new," but eBay may disagree with you. If there are no marks and no visible evidence of use, it's new.
From the photos, it appears obviously brand new to me.
2: I agree that $35 is much too low a shipping price. It would probably cost $100 or more to ship that item properly.
Well, okay, three thoughts:
3: Your buyer is already being rude and if I were you, I would look for any opportunity to get out of this sale. He will probably find a reason to return it, and by "eat it" he means you will be out a lot of money, or possibly lose your speaker cabinet.

lol we are all up late tonight....
1. I can see that for display units, but why would they remove their inventory from boxes.
The box is there to protect the item in the storage room, no box is just asking for rash.
And what happens to the paperwork, and warranty card... not for me.
The ebay definition of new, is in origional packaging.
So this item is new other, where packaging may be missing, but still new.
A scammer could swap out the guts, and claim it is used, the old switch a roo.
And because the listing was wrong to start with, i can see ebay siding with the buyer.
2. Seller will eat it on shipping cost, and if a return, they could lose half the value just on shipping.
3. I think the buyer knows the listing is not ebay compliant, and is flexing his muscles.
I would try to get out of the sale, but it may be too late for that, without taking an OOS ding.

I'm sure there is better advice to be had here, so take this for what it's worth. One of two things strike me as a possibility; Either this buyer has had a previous bad experience on eBay, or is looking to get something for nothing. Nice warning shot was proided. I would never, ever tolerate a message sent from a buyer that has displayed a menacing tone such as this. I would be on the phone with eBay in a hot second seeing what they could do to help me get out of this transaction. "I'm warning you", to me is a threat, and I would state that with eBay. This has to go against some kind of policy in place here. Even at the risk of a defect, I would NOT deal, kowtow or walk on eggshells with this buyer. They already made it clear they're trouble. Good luck.

The buyers comment about eating it means that the second the buyer gets the item, they will file a not described dispute on you and either get the item for free or force you to accept the return and you will have to pay the return shipping which will NOT be close to $35.
You should let the buyer know that since they notified you, you have looked over the unit and there are a few dings that make the item less than perfect and since they are demanding perfection, would they like to cancel the transaction.
If you can get out of the transaction, you should do so. And I also advise that you not list any more high dollar, high risk items until you get to know the risks of selling them on ebay better.

The buyer wants this brand new as it came from the factory~~which is how you have it listed (new unopened, in the factory packaging, etc.) I see the papers are in a plastic baggy sitting on top of the cabinet. Do you have the original box it came in as well as the packaging materials?
The cabinet is dated 2007~~that's 10 years ago.
I think I would take the defect and cancel the sale. You promised things in the listing that look like they aren't true (brand new unopened), stated the wrong model number in the title and you are WAAAYYY off on shipping charges. If it costs you 100 bucks to ship it, it's going to cost you another 100 bucks to get it back. Then you can list it correctly even though you won't get as much money for it as you did this time.
You can't deliver as per the description you supplied and the buyer is holding you to the details you gave. Better to cancel and get what you can out of it.

I don't think it would do any good to call ebay~~if the item is as described the OP has nothing to worry about. IF it isn't as described ebay will side with the buyer in expecting what the OP has listed~~new, unopened in it's original factory packaging.

Yes, insomnia is a fickle mistress.
Seriously though, music stores don't keep stuff like that in boxes. Guitarists usually won't buy a speaker like that without playing it first, even after playing nine identical ones. And it's very easy to tell if a new cabinet has old or not-spec speakers in it. The only thing inside it is connectors, wire, and speakers.
Motorcycles come in boxes, too. So does furniture. But nobody ever demands the cartons for a sofa or a Kawasaki ZX9. Oh and guitars too. Only the very cheapest ones go home in a cardboard box.
But of course.. exactly like you said, eBay doesn't know this. They expect you to be Ampeg in this case. It's utterly ridiculous. And perfectly normal for eBay.
And yeah, I would bet money that you're right... the buyer is flexing his muscles, probably to see if our seller will offer a "terror discount" to avoid losing his selling privileges.
I think the suggestion above is a good idea. Contact the bidder, and claim you found a minor flaw (or say it's completely broken, perhaps it fell off a truck on the way to UPS) and offer a 100% refund to avoid dealing with this person.

I don't know as if the buyer is "flexing his muscles" looking for a huge discount~~he appears to be just making it clear to the OP that he expects a BRAND NEW NEVER USED IN FACTORY PACKAGING NEVER OPENED speaker & if it isn't as described by the OP he doesn't want it. He is making it clear that for the kind of money he is paying he expects that the OP properly described it~~& it looks like he very well may be right.
As for music stores having speakers for musicians to "test" before buying~~those are store displays and even the musician wants a brand new in box speaker if he purchases after "testing"~~he isn't going to pay full price for a speaker that has been "tested" by who knows how many others.

You forgot to tell the OP one thing...cross your fingers! 🙂

Thank you everyone for your time to advise me. Believe it or not this is my first time writing in a forum, and I am very impressed how many persons made a quick advise. The item I posted is new with the original box, obviously its open. I decided to cancel the sell based on the threatening message sent by the buyer. I truly thank everybody who advised me.
