Sold an item today, not even an hour later a buyer requested to cancel.
I went ahead and tried to cancel that order however the cancellation did not go through and I kept getting messages with "Refund failed for this cancellation".
First ebay rep I was on the phone with said to "wait and see".
Second one said I needed to add a new payment method or use the additional one as "Preferred for selling costs". Which I did.
However I still am not able to send a refund and "Your refund did not go through. Please try again later" keeps appearing when I press Refund button.
I do not have cancellation task in my task section, the money from the sale are still in processing.
Any advise?

And you are positive the buyer had actually already paid within that very short (less than an hour) time span?

Yes, the buyer paid. The funds are in my processing funds at the moment.

I've run into this before and if I remember right you can't issue a refund until your payment goes from "processing" to "completed. By ebays standards there are no funds to refund until payment is completed

This is correct - it the funds are still "pending" it will not allow a Seller to complete a "refund" of funds that are not yet deemed yours.
You can cancel - but await the status change first. Your Buyer can await same and it will not affect your metrics as your shipping "time" does not start until you receive the "ship" notice from e-Bay.
Good luck - better sales await. Better to find out now vs after you have shipped the item.
