Need Urgent Help

I sold an Item for $1550 a CPU threadripper sold on April 14 2025 and Item was delivered on April 18 2025. With USPS priority tracking. The item looks like it was shipped to a reshipping company but I didnt think much about it since the buyer had 77 stars and looks to have the account since 2014.

Today 6/13/2025 I received a message from ebay "

Buyer filed a payment dispute with bank"

Now I have a hold of $1550 with no reason why this was disputed.

What should I do??

Hacked account, scammer buyer. Your listings are very sought after by scammers. Buyer filed claim with bank, eBay can’t do anything for you.

If the seller shipped to the address provided .................  wouldn't they be covered for this chargeback by eBay "seller protection".

What else did the message say? Instructions for what to do? A statement that eBay had your back and you did not need to do anything?

@jonathanbrightlight

Does OP have any protection if he shipped to a freight fowarder?

Not only are you taking a huge risk selling the very expensive, and very sought after items that you sell, you are likely to attract the attention of eBay asking for things like invoices and receipts.

Selling to a buyer who used a reshipper suggests scam to me. An unauthorized account and or credit card used for the purchase. With the kind of stuff you are selling, there is no way a buyer would not remember making the purchase.  Remember an account that only buys will always have a 100% positive feedback.

You are at the mercy of the buyer's bank. And banks almost always side with their customers.

I would be curious to know the answer to that question as well. Would like to know what eBay ends up doing for you if anything, so please let us know if possible.

Please say you sent that shipment with signature delivery.

I googled your problem and found this:

If a buyer on eBay disputes a payment and claims they don't recognize the transaction, you, as the seller, should respond to the dispute by providing evidence to eBay, such as tracking information and proof of delivery. If eBay determines the transaction is covered by seller protections, they may not seek reimbursement from you even if the payment institution rules in the buyer's favor.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Respond to the Dispute:
  • Access the Dispute:
Go to "My eBay" or "Seller Hub" and navigate to "Requests and disputes" to find the dispute.

  • Challenge the Dispute:
Select "Challenge dispute" and provide relevant evidence. This could include:
    • Tracking Information: If the item was shipped, provide tracking information showing delivery to the address on the order.

    • Proof of Delivery: If the order total is $750 or more, include signature confirmation.

    • Proof of Pickup: If the buyer collected the item in-store, provide buyer identification and proof of pickup.

  • Submit Evidence:
Ensure your return address is correct and submit your case for review by the payment institution.

2. Understanding Payment Disputes:
  • Buyer's Payment Institution:
When a buyer disputes a charge with their bank or payment provider, eBay is notified and begins the dispute process.

  • eBay's Role:
eBay collects information about the transaction and helps sellers build a case to defend the dispute.

  • Final Decision:
The buyer's payment institution (e.g., credit card company, PayPal) makes the final decision on the dispute.

  • Potential Outcomes:
    • In your favor: The payment institution rules the buyer's claim is invalid. You keep the funds, and eBay may waive the dispute fee.

    • In the buyer's favor: The payment institution rules the buyer is owed a refund. eBay may refund the buyer and seek reimbursement from you.

3. Seller Protections:
  • eBay's Seller Protections:
If your transaction meets certain criteria (e.g., you provided valid tracking and delivered to the address on the order), eBay may offer seller protections, meaning they won't seek reimbursement from you, even if the buyer wins the dispute.

  • Check Eligibility:
Review eBay's seller protection policy to see if your transaction qualifies for these protections.

  • Fees:
If you are eligible for protections, eBay may waive or refund the dispute fee.

4. Important Considerations:
  • Timeframe: Payment disputes can take time to resolve, potentially up to 90 days or more, depending on the payment method.

  • Return Requests: If you ask for the item to be returned during a payment dispute, eBay will attempt to recover it for you.

  • False Claims: Many payment disputes are ultimately found to be invalid.

^^^^ This!!

As long as @er_762520 shipped with s.c. (because the total payment was $750 or more) and as long as the item was shipped to the address ebay showed as the ship to address on the order, you will be covered.

...and irrespective of the destination, eBay would also need to see that the package was shipped with Signature Confirmation, due to the sale price exceeding $750.

P.S. Aaargh... don't know how I missed the previous replies saying the same thing..  🙄

FWIW, I'm not sure the $1550 hold is solely because of this dispute. As a fairly new seller who has sold several very expensive items, your funds might be held for 30 days.
