This is very true and very helpful because what you said reflects the reality as eBay sees it, and as eBay sees it is the only vision that matters here, financially.
However, what eBay fails to take into consideration is that in its inception it was marketed as America's biggest yard sale.
I do much more buying than selling on eBay and when I do buy here, what brings me here are the people cleaning out their closets and flipping yard sale items.
Once I am here -- for those insignificant items -- I am far more likely to add stuff to my eBay cart that I might otherwise have bought from Amazon or Walmart if the price is about the same.
So while you are accurately representing eBay's logic, eBay's logic is flawed.
The little closet-cleaning, yardsale-flipping sellers genuinely do lure in buyers who wouldn't shop here at all otherwise.
Ebay is like a bar owner, saying why have a Ladies night, if the Ladies aren't going to be parting with any of their money.
Because some small portion of folk who might otherwise drink at home that night might just stop by and part with some bucks in hope of getting lucky with the Ladies.
It's dollar foolish not to throw the Ladies a few pennies worth of extra free listings, in gratitude for their continued presence.
