NEW STORE FORMAT

Unwelcomed surprise.  The ability to search for newly listed is gone.  Categories are gone from the side to a drop down menu.  Is this just a test on a select few or are all stores downgraded?

Obviously if you are using it for real, you'd come up with a better title and description - that was just to test. 😉 It displays above "all items" and below your store banner/info.

In the fall update they said you could use the banner to "to grab buyers’ attention and showcase products, sales, or promotions" so I was a little disappointed you can't specifically choose to feature items that are part of a markdown sale or coupon promotion, for example.

Hopefully that's something they will add in the future, but in the mean time the workaround would probably be to create a new store category for "on sale" items you want to feature and direct the banner to that category.

@valueaddedresource The marketing banner what was the pixel size you used for your example? Looking at your images the space they show says 600 x 600 pixels, was that dimension right? Since it goes about half the space.

@nuclearomen  yes the image I used was 600 x 600.

Basically the marketing banner is 2 sections - a box on the right for your image and a box on the left for the banner title, description, and "shop now" button.  Currently eBay does not give you any control over the layout/design beyond that.

It would be nice for a future update if they could make it more customizable - like have the option to have the image stretch all the way across and have text/buttons overlaid on top, or swap the picture and text areas around, etc.

@valueaddedresource  does doing this allow you to add as many specific listings to the promotion or just category? I have a bunch of vinyl I want to place on year end clearance sale, but not the entire vinyl categoy(ies).

@nuclearomen  you can pick only a single category or single listing to point the banner to.  It's really just a picture with some text areas you can fill in and the button goes to a single link.

For your year end clearance sale idea, you'd need to set up your markdown sale or however you are going to do the actual discount like you normally would, then create a new store level category and call it something like "year end sale" and assign that as a secondary category to all of the listings in your sale (you can still leave them in whatever other store categories are applicable).

Once you have all those sale items in a category together, you would select "banner destination: store category" and pick that category from the drop down.  The "shop now" button would then link through to show buyers all items in the "year end sale" category.

yeah... that's a lot of work, details me going into every listing in the sale and adding the new category to those listings, and in doing so removing the second category allowed for each listing I replacing it with the new category... all vinyl and most listings have two category in listing...as example, all vinyl gets vinyl category, then there is secondary category for things like Double LP, Picture Vinyl, Triple LP/Box Sets etc... I would have to remove all those just to add a sale category and then add the listings I need in the sale to that new category just to get a link to point to the sale on the store with the banner. I had mentioned this over a year ago to ebay that limiting the category designation on listing to only 2 options was an issue for store subscribers... they didn't listen, and with this banner promotion makes it even more an issue.

@nuclearomen  yeah that is going to be an issue if you already use two store categories and definitely something eBay will need to figure out to make this feature really useful for sellers long term.

One other option would be to point the banner to a single listing that is in your year end sale.  Once someone clicks through to that item, they would then be shown the usual sale banner at the top of that listing which would allow them to click through to see other items in the promotion.

It is not ideal by any means I know, just another thought for something you could try.

Hopefully, at some point in the future they will allow you to point to a sale directly so that the banner can lead buyers to all items in a particular promotion rather than having to define it by category.

@valueaddedresource
I decided to much work - just activated new coupon sale for the entire main category of vinyl, which been doing off and on for awhile now... but never gave 25% on coupon before... see how this goes...test run.

I have various images of vinyl I have in stock/had in stock I used for the image... now and then I photograph some of the vinyls I distribute because they look so good and since they are usually pretty limited it serves as an archive of sorts... so i just some of the ones I already had...changed the text on the sale to "Halloween Vinyl Coupon Sale" since it ends 10/31 😆

@nuclearomen  I just checked it out on your store and interestingly, it displays below featured product modules, but above "all items."  When I tested it out I didn't have featured product modules enabled, so it was at the top, just under the store info.

It would be nice if eBay allowed you to customize and move those modules around too.  Most marketing advice is to put banners/ads "above the fold" or at least as close to it as possible so it's the first thing people see without having to scroll too much.

If you use featured product modules, it puts the marketing banner kind of in the middle of things.  It still kind of stands out just because it looks different, but personally I'd prefer to put it at the top without having to sacrifice using featured product modules.

yeah they do not allow you customize placement of "features" it seems.... but, I still am in the opinion that many people don't even visit the stores, it's easier in many cases to go to sellers "View all items" under their profile, especially those whom are regulars who just want to see the newest added items seller has. In any case I can remove the featured and best selling items for the time being so only the promotional banner shows.

Re: NEW STORE FORMAT

Another problem with the new store look is on the home page it doesn't show the discount if you're running a sell, just the discounted price and the percentage of the sale. Showing buyers the original price actually helps entice them to buy at the sale price more. Urgh eBay.

Re: NEW STORE FORMAT

Also, it doesn't show if the seller is accepting a BEST OFFER on the items, like the old layout.

It does once they do a search, but if they are just scrolling . . .  it doesn't.

the other problem is with the new store and items, it doesn't show the red triangle on item image if the item has had previous sales like it use to or does if you see it on sellers "See All Items" page from their profile.
