Multiple IDs

I'm just wondering how many here may have multiple posting IDs and am just wondering why?

I've had this ID forever. Though I know some people like to change theirs every so often - I've been made aware of many with 3,4,5 different postings IDs and I don't understand why that's necessary. To move up on the kudo's board? To show more support for a post that isn't too popular?

We actually have a much smaller community than I thought and now that I'm aware of all these posting IDs - I'll be more conscious of who's posting what.  I was surprised at the multiple IDs some long term posters have.

If there is another reason people feel the need to have all these multiple ID's I'm just wondering what it is.

That’s insane! Not what you said but the fact that people care do much about kudos. I couldn’t care less myself & don’t even check them

I'm not one to pick up on similarities myself - but the people I heard this from aren't assuming - they actually know these posters. One person I talked to actually did create another ID due to attacks from someone here and I can respect that.

I would hope that we'd all be adult enough to let disagreements slide as no one is always going to agree with each other - I know I don't - but it doesn't stop me from disagreeing with someone in one post and kudoing them in the next if they've given helpful information.

I'm sure not knowing is not a "personal" issue as it surprised me when I found out - I have posted while signed on under my selling ID - I can see that happening, I can see creating another posting ID if you've been attacked but can't see the need for 3-4 strictly individual posting IDS. So I just thought I'd ask.

As I said - it just puts the community as a whole in a different perspective. We're small but a good sampling of Ebay sellers - but with multiple posting IDs - we aren't as big a group as I thought. Also a trust issue comes into play - a person you just disagreed with on a thread where it got heated could be the same person you're engaging with in PMs and not even know it.

I catch similarities in posting & I used to call people out on it but I stopped doing that for my own well being (my accounts well being). Many times I see a posting ID and I know exactly who’s behind it. Lots of people use them to be mean to others. You can take me or leave me but I will not hide.

A few do watch their placement on the helpful boards - I'm not here for a pat on the back - just to learn - hopefully help and correct something if I know it's wrong - besides I overall just enjoy the members here - the awards and kudos should fall by the wayside as not all kudos are awarded for being helpful - I just might agree with someone on a topic.

There are cliches that give each other kudos too. The count is worthless.

I agree - take me as I am (while I hide behind a posting Id LOL)

I just feel sorry for those that care so much about how many kudos they get and their ranking. They must be lonely and see those kudos as acceptance. I think I topped the chart once for about 5 minutes - or at least that's what I was told - but it doesn't get you anything like a Ebay credit or reduced FVFs for a month so to me it's not important.

I have been wondering this as well. There is someone who actively posts using 4 different IDs and I can’t figure out why? 3 have active listings, one was just created. I don’t know if they are giving each other helpfuls but they sometimes post on the same thread which is funny, I always want to ask why they don’t stick to one ID but I don’t want to get spanked. I’m pretty sure there is certain account that is being used to boost the helpful votes as well, it’s been pretty obvious to me for awhile. They don’t post they just give helpfuls.

I don't know why people do this, but it is fairly easy to spot IF they post.   Writing styles, attitudes, use of certain words, phrases, punctuation, etc. can be spoofed but most of the time people don't bother.  Maybe they think no one will notice, but that doesn't mean no one hasn't or does...

Yes exactly. Well thanks to this post....now they know that we know 😉

Especially those with a very specific posting style. What just surprises me is that—and maybe I was just oblivious to this before—the use of multiple IDs seems to have increased. Maybe they are trying to avoid report-happy enemies.

Well I wish I knew who you all are talking about, but I'm clueless. However i do see some posters here that seem to post so often I wonder if they have any other passions in life.

While we are in wondering mode--I wonder how this off topic subject that has nothing to do with selling has not been moved or removed.  Makes you wonder just how much pull certain posters have with certain insiders.  After all they have previously said they have close contact with both factions.

For anyone who wants to see it, here is a thread where someone else brought up this same issue: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Community-Platform-Feedback/Multiple-Soapbox-Id-s/m-p/28477644.

If I say it will not end well. 😉  The poster is question can safely say so should they choose to step up and own it.  You can also do some digging and you will find it.

The poster is referring to me - must be a new ID and someone I had a disagreement with in the past. This just proves one of the reasons why people might have posting IDs which was my original question.

We all need a break from the same constant posts everyday and there have been quite a few threads that just throw some levity to these boards and let's us just get to know each other without having disagreements - that's the nice part.

***********

I have done that.  Wondered if I should but hey -- when someone is right (IMO) they're right and when they're wrong (IMO) they're wrong.

That aside, I have only 2 eBay IDS.  The one I sell with and this one I post with.

However, I accidentally posted here I think once with my selling ID because I didn't realize I had to sign out when I am on my selling ID just reading, and then sign back in when I come here to post.

Totally agree - some people take things very personally  - I received a pm a few weeks back wishing my family and I were killed because of a difference of opinion here. Should I have reported it maybe - but I blow those things off - what are they going to do anyway but give them a vacation and then they just make another ID.

Wow, that is awful.  I cannot imagine someone would ever wish something like that.  :(((

I agree!  I have never reported anyone for anything  but THAT is a very dangerous (IMO) wish.

Sometimes people with posting ids may inadvertently use their other id as was previously suggested.

I have seen that happen as well.

Me, too. It's especially funny when you see a practically trademarked troll comment coming from a different posting ID, and you think, "Ooooops..." Smiley Very Happy

More commonly, I think a lot of people maintaining separate buying and selling accounts tend to use the buying account for posting, since it doesn't give unhappy members an opportunity to mess up the poster's selling account.

Technically, I could see how you could use one posting account to give yourself Kudos -- um, Helpfuls on the other, but that strikes me as rather needy, and probably not all that effective, either, unless you're really trying to do it in bulk. Keep in mind also that you can click on a Helpful count to see all the other accounts who voted for it, so I think any little self-Helpful shilling enterprise would become obvious pretty quickly.

Absolutely!   I have noticed some perennial comments re surfacing under another id~a dead give away.

And that is rather needy, I agree.  Plus it is not ethical~it's cheating.  And it's worthless~it's pretty sad if you have to give yourself a pat on the back.  (I sense a feedback discussion in the wings, LOL)

The main goal should be to help people, not seek self aggrandizement, but to each his own.  Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men, and all that...

What's that old saying?  Everyone has needs, just some are more needy than others.
