Multiple IDs

I'm just wondering how many here may have multiple posting IDs and am just wondering why?

I've had this ID forever. Though I know some people like to change theirs every so often - I've been made aware of many with 3,4,5 different postings IDs and I don't understand why that's necessary. To move up on the kudo's board? To show more support for a post that isn't too popular?

We actually have a much smaller community than I thought and now that I'm aware of all these posting IDs - I'll be more conscious of who's posting what.  I was surprised at the multiple IDs some long term posters have.

If there is another reason people feel the need to have all these multiple ID's I'm just wondering what it is.

I only have one I use. I'm bad at tracking other people. I see every conversation as a new conversation so I've been chided for posting similar posts around the same period of time on different threads. I've also been accused of stalking and trolling by someone and have no idea what they're talking about only to go through my own history and found a minor tiff that happened weeks back.

I have people I like on the boards but for the most part I don't care enough about anybody to troll them or follow them around. If it happens it's purely coincidence. I don't understand anyone who takes things from a disagreement to personal. I'm a stranger, why do you care if I have a different opinion? Especially not enough to start threatening me or being totally nasty.

That said, it's been a while since someone accused me of being an Ebay shill or troll. The fact that I very occasionally agree with one thing Ebay does does not make me an employee or a troll.

I would never use a different ID to post on the boards, because when I say something, I want everyone to know madison said it..

Totally agree - some people take things very personally  - I received a pm a few weeks back wishing my family and I were killed because of a difference of opinion here. Should I have reported it maybe - but I blow those things off - what are they going to do anyway but give them a vacation and then they just make another ID.

I haven't thought about the multiple Posting IDS here on this platform.  We have mentioned about the need/necessity of having more than one Selling IDS.  Or separating the Buying, Selling, + Posting IDs on this platform too.

Per one poster mentioned: 

1) how can one tell whether a different posting ids actually belongs to the same person?

2) is it the writing styles?

3) period/time of the ids being created?

4) Ip addresses ... etc, etc?

Like many here, I came into the boards to search for answers to similar scenarios: be it technical or

selling/buying encounters - after trying to contact CS via phone.  If the situation can be resolved with the CS.  I'd considered it a close case, lesson learned, + move on.  If the issue cannot be resolved or become too 'complicated' - I like to do a search through past threads to see if any have similar issues.

As to the "Why?" Multiple Posting IDs ... the first thought that came to my mind was: "Multiple Personalities Disorders" - absolutely no disrespect or offense meant by that. 

Now that @tunicaslot brought this topic up ... somehow, I cannot stop speculating the various posting ids.  

Unfortunately, last week I went into a thread that I considered, todate - ended 'badly' that the moderator has to close the thread due to some postings have gone rogue.  I wonder.  How many

multiple posting ids were involved.  IMHO, it is critical to agree to disagree on discussion opinions - is that not the reason why this community is under the tag "Discussion"?

I sometimes have the same issue on facebook. I have friends with diametrically opposing political philosophies so I stopped posting political threads. However there are times i post other threads that I think are totally innocent and one of them blows up. It is ridiculous. My new philosophy is:

You are entitled to your opinion. You are not however entitled to MY opinion.

I have been wondering this as well. There is someone who actively posts using 4 different IDs and I can’t figure out why? 3 have active listings, one was just created. I don’t know if they are giving each other helpfuls but they sometimes post on the same thread which is funny, I always want to ask why they don’t stick to one ID but I don’t want to get spanked. I’m pretty sure there is certain account that is being used to boost the helpful votes as well, it’s been pretty obvious to me for awhile. They don’t post they just give helpfuls.

Speaking of which, I sometimes get Helpfuls on posts that are so old that they've been archived -- some going back years. Presumably someone was doing keyword searches and popped up something relevant from back in... oh, 2013 or so. (Too bad they haven't archived more of the oldest stuff.) It's interesting to read my own stuff from so far back that I've forgotten about it...
