More changes to feedback

eBay redesigned this page: https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback

A pop-up now appears. If you had FB comments you always used you can no longer access the quick auto-fill list that browsers saved for you. I'm pretty sure @mr_lincoln is one of the sellers that liked using browser auto-fill for FB on that page.

You can no longer X items (like cancelled sales) to remove them from the list.

This is what the pop-up looks like from the seller's side:

feedbackpage-seller-2024.png

With this page switching to a pop-up for each item, there is no longer a "quick" option for a seller to leave a lot of feedback at once unless they use automatic feedback or use bulk feedback with the same [up to 5] stored comments for every buyer from the seller hub orders page.

As a buyer I don't have any purchases waiting for FB today to confirm, but I suspect this means the work-around to avoid leaving a forced star rating product review as a buyer will no longer work. @eburtonlab

I submit my buyers' feedback from the Actions column of my Sold Items page, which still uses the older form offering stored feedback comments and such. Fairly quick and easy.

If you're on Seller Hub, then there are issues with it. For example, you still have to deal with the popup so that slows things down. Once you submit the FB, it takes you back to the top of the page so you lose your place. Once you submit the FB, the FB icon is not filled in unless you refresh the page so you can't even see which transactions you've left FB for. It's cumbersome.

I have been reading about this "Rate the item" topic for a while, and waiting to see it for myself. It doesn't seem to be rolled out across the board yet. Do we know anything about the implementation, or if this is a test?

FWIW, I don't have the opportunity to Rate the Item yet. I have two purchases, one each on two accounts, that I could leave feedback for but I don't wish to. I don't have any "Rate this item" stars available on either account. (The transaction was cancelled by the seller, because they found something wrong when they were getting ready to ship. I was disappointed, but I'm not going to neg the seller over it.)

ETA: Oh, are the Rate this Item stars only for certain items? Like only new items, or only items on product pages? That last guess would make sense, if they are displaying the item star ratings with the product reviews on listing pages.

There was some discussion about using FB for product reviews on the podcast 2 months ago.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/eBay-for-Business/Ep-290-Picking-for-Passion-and-Profit-Not-Projects/b...

Kayomi: We also have news about a recent enhancement to feedback and I believe you have a guest waiting to talk about that.

Griff: I do. In fact, she's the Product Manager for the eBay Feedback Team. Jessica Vayo. Hi Jessica.

Jessica: Hi. Thanks for having me.

Griff: Now, when you were last on, you were on a different team.

Jessica: I was. I used to work in the social area at eBay, but you know, things move around all the time at eBay. And so now I have joined the Feedback Team, which is great.

Griff: What is rolling out?

Jessica: Currently we are testing the ability to leave a product review inside of the normal seller feedback intake form. So that means that for items eligible for product review, buyers will be able to give the item a star rating for the first time and item feedback along with the existing seller feedback already.

Griff: So a product review is different than normal feedback?

Jessica: Yeah, product reviews have been around for a long time. So on eBay, some items that are sold by multiple sellers have a product review page on eBay which collects reviews for that item across all sellers who sell it. These are items like an iPhone or a Dyson vacuum. They're often things that are mass manufactured or have a barcode. And in product reviews buyers also have the ability to leave a star rating for the item as well. So that is why we are bringing it into our feedback form.

Griff: This is something we see on a lot of other marketplaces. Why is eBay adding this to the feedback form?

Jessica: This is a step in the direction we wanna help more buyers discover eBay sellers online. We've had past research show that item specific feedback is something potential buyers are really looking for to make a purchase decision. And we just haven't really highlighted that as much on eBay. What's more item reviews and item star ratings are super important to search engines like Google. So if you google an item, the sites that show the item star rating and item review are the results that are prioritized in search results these days. You'll see like those pop up absolutely at the top.

Griff: That is important.

Jessica: Yes, that's absolutely what buyers are looking for and that's what's driving buyers to those sites the most By encouraging more star ratings for items on eBay. We hope this will help in turn help our eBay sellers get discovered by more potential buyers in the future.

Griff: I look at those every time I'm shopping and I'm on Google shopping or if I'm on another marketplace where it says, you know, you can sort by reviews. I want to know the one that gets the highest review.

Jessica: Yes. We want our eBay sellers to be prioritized in search results. We want them to be found. This is the first step.

Griff: When you say first step, are there other steps coming in the future?

Jessica: We do wanna be able to allow item star ratings for more items across eBay but one step at a time.

Griff: It's probably more relevant if it's something like a barcoded item which or skuable item.

Jessica: Yeah, yeah, that was a a first step.

Griff: I know there'll be a seller news announcement. I've seen the draft. It has some screenshots about what this experience will look like. So if you're interested, if you sell these kind of products and you're interested to know what buyers you're gonna see, keep an eye out on the announcement board and in coming weeks we'll talk more about it and if you have questions, of course you can send them to podcast@ebay.com. Jessica, thank you. It's always a pleasure.

Jessica: Thank you so much.

Kayomi: Thanks for that update Jessica. You can find more about this new item review feature in the seller news announcement that should be live to site tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24th.

Griff: Right. So just check out the announcement board at community.ebay.com. And without any further ado, let's meet this week's seller guest.

The promised Seller News Announcement was never posted, and tags to the community team asking when it's coming have all gone unanswered.

Noticed another big change to that page: It says "sold by" but there's no indication of buyer ID. Sellers of MQ listings will have no clue which buyer they're leaving FB for if they use that page with the new layout.

This now shows Sold by: seller for purchases and it shows Purchased by: buyer for sales on the main page https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback , but when you click the positive button next to a transaction, on the pop up window for that transaction it still shows Sold by: seller for all items kyle@ebay .

And in product reviews buyers also have the ability to leave a star rating for the item as well. So that is why we are bringing it into our feedback form.

@wastingtime101

Thanks for that. I knew I read it somewhere before.  Wish we could get Jessica in here to tell us how "have the ability" to leave a star rating for the item equates with making it mandatory or you can't rate the TRANSACTION at all.

Since I have not seen these screens yet, the ones here in message 3, 4, and 6...all have HOW WOULD YOU RATE THIS ITEM  with a row of stars.

Directly underneath that is TELL US MORE ABOUT THE ITEM.....So what are you supposed to put in there?  Do they want an explanation of why you gave the PRODUCT only 2 stars?  i.e. This Dyson did not suck enough, floor is still dirty.

Or is that the place you are supposed to leave feedback for the seller about how well the transaction went? Explicitly what comments appear on the seller's feedback page?  Maybe I am just tired and am missing something, but at first glance it appears the ability to rate the sellers excellent performance has been removed in favor of more about the product???

If we, as a buyer, run across a product review star tally on a seller's page, can we click and read what people said about the product anywhere?  or is it simply a rating of stars with no explanation and just for show?

I read reviews on other platforms when I am considering buying something new.  You can read all the comments from people that gave 5 stars, or all the comments from those that rated it as one star and everything in between.  Are the eBay stars going to be not clickable and just dead?

I have auto-feedback when anyone buys from me.

Will this affect that in any way?

@inhawaii , no it will not affect auto FB.

@ittybitnot , I can tell you I left feedback on 99% of transactions as a buyer until this change was made. Because of forced star product reviews I am now leaving FB on 0% of transactions as a buyer.

As a seller I prefer to use auto FB but I do have one smaller account with manual FB so I can test stuff like this. It's become a lot more cumbersome and time consuming to leave FB on that manual account with the changes.

Sorry but for some reason I missed being tagged on this thread of yours ... I started one on the same subject a day later and kyle@ebay confirmed that he will log the missing auto-fill for Seller Feedback as a bug on this near page layout-rollout.  Below is the thread where he confirmed that.

I haven't been paying close attention to this topic so apologies if I'm not sharing anything NEW-new, but I just went to do a feedback for a purchase and I don't even know what I'm looking at now.  I intended to give the usual praise for good packing, speedy delivery and also state that this item actually came direct from the seller, not an Amazon dropship.  I knew I would need to do the star thing (I don't really know why that part is so bad to some here, but like I said I haven't been following this topic closely, so maybe there's a reason the item star review is problematic).  But then ... even the COMMENT BOX says to tell more about the item.  -They're cotton swabs, what's to tell ?  And what happened to the box where you describe the seller's performance????  If I write that there, will it still show in the seller's feedback like normal??  I just exited out because I want to know what's going on before I do more of these.

It appears to be only for new items.  For used ones (or this one at least) there is no star review at the top, and the comment box still says to talk about "your experience," not "this item."

@gurlcat

Thanks for the screen shots.  I asked as well (message 20) what the heck the TELL US MORE ABOUT THE ITEM  instead of Tell us what you loved about your experience (I suspect that title is different than before)  box was for.,,,, who knows, but presently I think it still populates the comment visible on the member's feedback page.

kyle@ebay

Can you tell us?  Specifically when it says Tell Us More About the Item with a text box on the feedback page, if this actually posts the comment for the seller's feedback?  even though it is asking to tell more about the product?  See the screenshot in message #3.    Is this a new enhancement? A mistake?   Where do we tell about how wonderful the seller was?  Or is eBay not interested in that anymore?

Yes and no. Depends what link people were using to access FB before. Per the OP, the feedback forum page just switched over to the new view last week. Before that, the feedback forum was a way to get around the new changes.

@yuzuha

This one is new although I saw something similar last year.  It must be another test OR they finally started rolling it out as THE new FB flow.  While I hope not, if they do then we will all have to live with it sorry to say.
