Rather than further hijack another thread, this is what the MBG policy currently says about local pickup. This is a recent change (I think), and contradicts common board posts that "local pickup is not covered by the MBG". My advice remains that smart buyers either pay cash after inspection or fund online payment with credit card, rather than rely on eBay. Smart sellers will either attempt to require cash after inspection or at least know they are at risk of reversal by eBay, PayPal, or credit card.

I will no longer be accomodating a buyer's request for a Local Pickup due to eBay's policy of sellers NOT being able to require Cash On Delivery (pickup).

I love that.

I've never offered local pick up and am not that familiar with it so are you saying that something has just changed or could sellers never require cash for local pickup? I have never been sure exactly how that worked.

That part of the policies remains as murky as ever. Sellers are required to offer an electronic payment (paypal, credit card) for most local pickups and are required to accept it if paid that way. But the are allowed to kinda, sorta, maybe imply that they will only accept cash by including a statement "Contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup."
What has changed is the wording in the Money Back Guarantee for buyers. Previously, "items collected by the buyer" were not covered at all, now they are specifically covered for both INR and SNAD, which some sellers have always had concerns about. Since there is no tracking, how does a seller prove the buyer picked up that Ming vase?

There was a thread recently where a blue stated that a seller cannot require ONLY cash on pick up, that 'one must offer and online payment method.' Taken further, one can infer, that a seller that does not accept the Pal and is paid that way gets their due punnishmen as an "out of stock defect" for refunding such PayPal payment.

Thank you couldabeenworse -- you found the CORRECT answer and gave excellent wise council !!!! I just got off the phone with DAN @ EMBG Resolution supervisor and he said EXACTLY the same thing.. I am covered for MY local pickup item. Unfortunately, many people will not be due to their indolence. You must use GOOD sense(formerly COMMON) to discern the truth -- MANY, many CSR's at eBay are giving out the WRONG ANSWER every minute. How did you do it without spewing any ridiculous opinions, quoting stuff your brother-in-law's cat said or making ludicrous statements and/or ultimatums nonsense?? THANK YOU again for posting FACTS and not "what should be" or just plain rubbish ... I've stopped asking "How dumb can you get?" because people seem to be taking it as a challenge!

Fwiw, in the event of an MBG claim, how would return shipping be arranged and tracked since a local pick up listing has no designated carrier & etc.? What would happen if the item involved has been transported by the buyer away from the seller's local area?
