Interesting addition to the eBay Open agenda:

I have to say that's the first I can recall eBay inviting a direct competitor (Facebook Marketplace and Instagram Shopping) to present at eBay Open. 🤔
I suppose Amazon was just too busy since their seller conference is the week before and Mercari probably would have liked a spot but couldn't find anyone to send after that 45% layoff but maybe we'll see a surprise appearance by Poshmark or Etsy? 😂
Jokes aside, it still completely baffles me that someone at eBay apparently thinks it's a great idea to continue shuffling sellers to competitor sites for customer service, news, seller engagement and "brand building" while completely ignoring and neglecting this community - case in point the month old Ask About eBay Ads "discussion" that appears to be abandoned with no further responses forthcoming while eBay just launched an Ask Us Anything post on Instagram. 🤦

Instagram can be a valuable tool. It appears Ebay believes the case can be made to use it to promote Ebay sales, or at least will take money for Facebook to make the case.
Ebay need not view either Instagram Shopping or Facebook Marketplace as a competitor.
Ebay supports the use of Facebook and other social media to promote Ebay sales.

@tobaccocardyahoo fair points, and I probably wouldn't have had the same reaction if this session was presented by eBay employees responsible for the social sharing feature giving sellers pointers on how to use that tool to drive sales across all channels it connects to back to their eBay stores.
But to me it still stands out as a bit odd that eBay has invited an outside company to present at their annual seller conference when that company operates competing ecommerce marketplace and shopping offerings that would allow sellers to set up shop directly on their platforms, complete with in app checkout that would negate the need to direct potential buyers back to an eBay store or listing to complete a purchase.

Maybe this is a way to introduce the 2.4 billion users on Instagram to interface with Ebay.
