Good Morning Fellow Sellers - I just got off the phone with ebay - my question got transferred only one time this time. What I asked was this:
"Is Markdown Manager broken?"
Not sure how many of you use it but I use it on this ID all the time. This morning I relisted a few sold items to the store. I currently have an active sale going on.
Markdown manager when I went in didn't even show my active sale.
So I called and this is what they told me.
"You can no longer add new items to an existing sale"
Huh? are you sure?
"Yes that option is now no longer available"
Are you telling me that if I add a new item I have to now go in an create an item specific sale for each and every new item I list???
"Yes I am so sorry but that is how it works now"
Are you kidding me???
"Yes I am so sorry"
Okie dokie - off to start listing items in my own website - thank you - have a great day

What is even more non existant is the communication in regards to this unacceptable change.

ok - so I'm not the only one experiencing this? and I guess it's true? if so (not just a mistake made by foreign rep) this has got to be one of the biggest blunders they've ever made. Shoppers LOVE discounts. So I for one won't be creating new sales for every listing I create (just absolutely ridiculous) Trying to figure out the reason for this stupid move. How exactly is this moronic jesture benefitting eBay? WE know they don't do much to benefit the seller money wise - is it us giving up on creating sales so the item MIGHT possibly sell at full price giving eBay more money in the bank? I was actually hoping an ebay mod would just in here and tell me the c/s rep was misinformed - guess not

So just want to make sure - no one cares that markdown manager is now gone?

Most of us have learned to use promotions manager to accomplish the same thing. And you don't have to create an individual sale for each item.

It's still there and works fine.
Like CS said, if you add new items, they won't be included in a sale you have going on now.

I got booted to the new promotions manager a long time ago. It was a big change, but I've adapted. I'm sure you will too.
There is a way to have new listings added to a currently running markdown sale. You have to use the right hand side promotion creation button and create a rule that will add new or skipped items to the sale as they qualify. It's a checkbox somewhere in the flow on the final screen. New listings get added to the sale within a few hours of going live.
I haven't figured out how the skipped part works, but maybe someone else knows. I assume that works with pricing data, which is another field you can use to either include or exclude items.

okie dokie followed your path - thouhgt it was correct - now lost all my current sales so i guess I can just take the day off now. Seriously - I went thru this when they first dreamed up this newet disaster and they told me they were not going to go thru with it and that markdown manager would remain. Silly me

Just keep at it. I borked up a few sales as I learned too. I used super short term sales (a day or two) while I learned. That way things didn't look all messed up for very long. I was pretty torqued too. It's completely understandable.
Sometime the durned thing still just annoys the dickens out of me. I take some time to regroup and try again. We are stuck with it, so I figure I might as well get with the program.
One nice thing is that you can end and restart sales much quicker. They recommend waiting 2 hours before restarting a promo. I hear running multiple promos at the same time works pretty slick as well. For example markdown + order or shipping promos....haven't been brave enough to try those yet, but have seen them on other seller's listings.
I don't have a huge number of listings to work with, so have never hit the limits. The limits in the old MM were obnoxious. YMMV.

thanks for the encouragement - I will try again or make c/s walk me thru it (might as well torture them too) meanwhile devoting today to adding product to my own website - can see the end coming

I thought when they first switched to the new one, there was a place you could check if you wanted new items to be included in the promotion or not, but I think they have removed that option.

There has been a note and updates saying it was changing and would bacically end...leaving the new Promotions magager thing.... simular..a bit harder to figure out..has oddity that are weird, but does the same thing...
OK it is not as easy as the old, but they change things all the time,....and it's ebay's site..not mine or yours....
I can only say..that I liked the old way..and it was easier, BUT i have learned how to use this version , and I can deal with change...once you find how to add to a promotion( little add word)...and understand how/when they will start..there is a lag time to them updating and starting.... once you do a few times , you get it...and was it all easy before..yes....is this way..no not exactly...but learn it /use it/ because it is what we have now... like the HUB....just learned to use it...and I suppose there will be other stuff....so....

Well still not sure if I got it right or not - there seemed to be a launch time of 11 something so I'll keep working elsewhere and check back around noon - horrible idea to screw with things that already worked just fine.
