Make an Offer Nuisance

Hello all. Is there a way to stop the allowing buyers to make an offer option from being automatically enabled when listing items. It just adds unnecessary steps when I'm listing items. When I start a brand new listing, it's usually not enabled, but when relisting something, or when I use the "sell similar item" option, make an offer is always enabled.

Thanks, in advance

It sounds like you're listing 'sell similar' from a listing that allows offers. No biggie... just choose another to use.

Edit to add: I only see 6 listings with 'Make offer' on it. Simply don't use 'Sell similar' from those 6.

You could spend a little extra time to review before you list

I loved that feature when I was selling. You used to be able to set a minimum, before you’d even see the offer, the customer would get an offer not accepted message. My offers were set to the price I’d sell at, so if the buyer made the offer at my minimum or above, it would sell. I think at least a third of my sales came from this feature. Maybe you love your merchandise more than you want sales. In my experience too many sellers actually fall in love with their products, and find it hard to part with them. Which is also one reason so many sellers struggle. The offer feature IMO is an excellent tool for sales, especially during slower times.

If you don't want the best offer feature to appear, don't use the sell similar option.  Start  a new listing.

Happy Selling!

Make an Offer Nuisance

Hi ckimodog. Ok, that makes sense. Two clarifying questions:

1. It automatically enables make offer when I relist an item listing I created myself that did not have it enabled. Why is that?

2. Let's say I use sell similar item that has make offer enabled to list an item. I edit it to disable make offer. Then I use my new listing to sell similar item or relist, will it remember that the original item I  used sold similar from had make offer enabled and enable it on mine?

I know that second question is convoluted. I worded it as best I could. Thanks for your help.

Hello dwise. Thanks for replying.  Yes, there is much truth in what you said about sellers falling in love with their own products. I've been guilty of that before.

But I've outgrown that, for the most part. The reason I don't use make offer is from past experience... I used to own a brick and mortar physical store. I found that practices like running a lot of sales and taking offers seemed to devalue my inventory, as customers would get the mentality of just waiting for an item to go on sale, or "he'll take less for this".

I'm relatively new to online selling. I guess the mentality is different here?

Thanks again.

You can remove "Best offer"  from your listings.

But a potential buyer can still "Make an offer"  Thru ebay contact seller.

No way to completely eliminate it,  as far as I know.

You can revise the six listings that are currently set up with best offer to remove that feature.  As mentioned, though, ebay has a question option that can be sent on any listing asking if you will accept an offer.

In the instance you outline above, a new 'Sell similar' listing would not pick up 'Make Offer', as you didn't go live with 'Make Offer' on the relist. The live listing becomes your new starting point.

You have to really watch when creating a listing. eBay tends to enable features for you. Including extra cost ones.  Look before you click list or it can get expensive.

I wonder if the O.P. is using the app?

I love my desktop. I can see everything an adjust as needed before listing or relisting.

A 5" x 3" screen is just not my thing.
