Local collection when selling, safe?

First time selling an item for local collection before

So the buyer has paid and when they arrive i input the code they have or scan qr code

But is there any chance they can reverse the payment via ebay at all? Is it risky?

Ive had several pricey pick up only items thru the years, with never a problem. And a couple of the buyers paid with PP,instead of cash, thats their choice. Neither PP or Ebay offers buyer protection on a pick up only item, they told me each case would be decided individually, but I never had that happen. Tho a buyer can always try to do a chargeback with their cc, if thats how they paid. But that can happen with any transaction.

It is pretty  safe if you accept CASH ON PICKUP which is allowed in the US.  Otherwise all online payments are subject to reversal.  I would ask on the UK boards, and review the policies that apply for they may be different than here in the US.

When I did a local pickup as a buyer I got the QR code and just held it up to sellers phone and it took it, so easy. Just make sure you have the ebay app in your phone.

     I would say that local pickup has less of a risk because buyer can touch, see item but of course there is always a chance of buyer returning after they get home.

Whether you ship item or customer picks it up....if they pay with credit card they have up to 6 months to "reverse payment".

Maybe I'm just old school in these modern times, but I can't imagine a world where local pickup isn't just cash only off the books with a 10-20% discount off ebay price and both people walking away happy.

@bonjourami  is correct.  Just to add a little more to that post. A difference in accepting PayPal (for local pickup like cash or for general transactions not dealing with Ebay) that can help save you money or protect you more (depending if you are sending or receiving) is how you send the funds.

There are two option when sending funds through Paypal which are Friends & Family or Goods & Services.

Choosing Friends & Family typically voids buyer protection from PayPal (*although may be able to still dispute it *) and the receiver of funds does not pay the 3% transfer fee.

If you choose Goods & Services, the buyer has PayPal protection and the receiver of the funds pays the 3% transfer fee.

* A lot depends on how the sending PayPal account is set up for funding. If you fund your payments on Paypal via Credit Cards, you will have the ability to dispute through them. If you fund your payments via your bank account, it is much harder to recoup the funds. I know many in the music industry that have been burned by sending Friends and Family and were not able to get there money back. YMMV*

The only payment that can't be reversed is cash.

If you sold a high-priced item, I suggest cash at pick-up. Not knowing what the item is or size, you can also check with your local police station to schedule a safe transaction for both parties. 

Reviewing your buyer's profile and all feedback may show they are a solid buyer and no worries. I have sold some items for local pick-up, and I will print out the purchase details and have the buyer sign if they paid electronically.

If eBay even suspects you did that (you had communication with a buyer, they agree on a meetup location, etc, and then you just end the listing instead or don't do the process of marking it as paid/picked up in eBay) they will charge you final value fees even if you legit didn't sell it, and it's hard to get that reversed.  If you do it the right way, you still get charged the FVFs but not without being aware of it, and your butt is much more covered.  Probably the best way is to accept only cash on pickup, but still just pay for your eBay fees by doing it the right way, and marking it as picked up with the QR code or 6 digit code, which covers you for Item Not Received claims.  You make the sale via eBay, give them their rightful cut.

True, also true the same Seller Protection policy applies, if you have the QR code you would win any INR claim and the same protection for Payment disputes/chargebacks (Not Recognized or INR).

For a NAD claim or NAD Payment chargeback it's generally the same as well....there is no real Seller Protection for either.
