The picture in search results is most important, all other things being equal. Keywords will get your listing in more search results. So, what are you customers looking for? If you were looking for what you sell, what would you type into a search box?
Your title doesn't necessarily need to clearly indicate what the item is. The picture is on the far left, and that is what buyers look at! The words just help your listing appear in search results. You need both. Large pictures--optional in the selling template--make your item look better than the ones with smaller pictures, and the more paid add-ons you select in your selling template, the higher you'll go in search results!
The add-ons are flat rate, so you're item must sell for more than that to make it financially feasible to use them. I get add-ons for most listings. Then there's promotions, at the bottom of the selling (listing) template. Those get more sales by advertising your listings in similar listings made by other sellers. Those are a percentage of the selling price. You don't pay unless it sells! So, anyone can use those and it still makes sense financially.
Inexpensive items may not be promotable. There is limited ad space, and it will be used for items that make eBay the most money. If you don't see it, it's not available for your listing.
So, it's really matter which picture is first. That one shows in search results. Buyers just want to find what they want. They're looking for low price too. But if a buyer sees something (s)he wants, she'll click based on the picture.
My best selling listings do not just spell out what the item is. The titles are a series of keywords, from which buyers can figure out what the item is, bit it isn't directly written like that.
For instance, if a seller has a woman's dress to list. It's above the knee, orange, pleated, low cut with a few buttons, with straps, and a wide hem on the bottom. That would work like this: <Designer name or retail store> <size> "Orange, Straps, Low Cut, Buttons, Pleated, Above Knee, Wide Hem, Summer Dress!"
Subjective adjectives should be included in the picture and description. Beautiful, lovely, attractive, fashionable, nice fitting, slimming, youthful, perky, modern, traditional, hip, sensuous, pretty, sharp, muted, modest, attention grabbing, liberating, airy, flowing, pert, casual, formal.
In the description, pretend you're out shopping with a friend, and (s)he is trying on something, or looking at an item to purchase, and you know everything about that item! So, you tell your friend all the great things about your item, but from a stand point that the seller is someone else, like you and the buyer are friends.
Have faith in your product and your description. Don't repeat anything. Let the words do their job. And make sure the description is grammatically perfect. It creates a great impression of competence and trustworthyness. EBay is the same as anywhere else you make money in that you earn according to the amount of work you do!
