Listing Templates question

Given all the recent changes (new listing form, more item specifics, tech upgrades, etc.), how old is too old for listing templates you created?   Do they become obsolete at some point?

I have two I have been using for years and years, longer than I remember.  Based on a question I asked at today's Chat (Weekly Discussion With eBay Staff, 7/14) I'm now wondering if my templates are techno dinosaurs and are not up to current standards.

My question at Chat involved using Sell Similar when listing new items.   Item specifics not transferring to new listings created by using Sell Similar on an older active listing.

Is it possible that older templates are not quite compatible with new code being utilized now?  They do the job but not up to current standards?  Can outdated data affect the way Cassini perceives a listing and assigns placement on the site?

Using a current listing and selecting Sell Similar, then down the road using that particular listing to create a new SS listing, then further down the road using that 3rd created listing to SS another listing, and on and on, can the process become degraded so that when you use, say, the 15th iteration, the tech has changed enough to affect the quality of the newest created listing?  (Think of an ancestry tree).  Like it's not quite comparable to using the new sell your item form?

Are older listing templates relevant anymore or should they be deleted and new ones created to encompass all the new item specifics required?

Obviously I'm no computer wiz.  Help please.  Based on my ramblings above, does anybody understand what I am asking about?
