Letting Go

Hello Everyone.

I sold an item and the buyer told me that the item was moldy when they received it and cannot be used. I check everything I send out. The item was not moldy or warped. I refunded them the money because I didn't want a bad review. I didn't think to ask them to send it back. It makes me so discouraged and makes me want to quit. How can I let go when things like this happen?

Any number of things could be to blame.  You could have overlooked it, depending on how bad it was.  It could have happened in shipping.  It could be the buyer's fault.  They could even be lying.  But regardless, just keep your outlook on the situation professional and not personal.  It's not a big deal.  One bad sale won't hurt you.  Just keep going.

It's business.  Don't take it personal.

if he buyer says it's moldly, it's moldy.

If the buyer says it's broken, it's broken.

If the buyer says it's dirty, it's dirty.

This is the stance ebay will take.

It's best to just accept the return.

It' all part of doing business online.

I learned years ago when I started selling online, it's business, you can't take it personally.

If you do, it can drive you nuts.

Have a great day.

One way to let it go is to stop reviving the memory of it by posting about it in detail on a message board.

Every minute that you let a total stranger discourage you is a minute of your life wasted.

As sellers,  we all go through it.

Fortunately it doesn't happen to often.

The fact that it bothers you is indicative that you care very deeply about what you do.

Your business offerings and your clientele.

That you always passionately strive to give your client an outstanding experience is evident in this angst.

Otherwise, it would be quite easy to let it go.

That IMHO is the foundation of what it takes with any endeavor.

Best of luck with your business and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

@777infinity  Your not alone on this. Sometimes you have to just to save your sanity.  We've all had that one customer.  Yes, it may hurt but only for a short time.   Your next buyer might leave you stellar feedback then it will make your day.  As hard as you try.  You can't please everyone and there will always be a scammer in there somewhere.   Just keep on chugging along and know Karma is a *witch* and it will catch up to them.

@luckythewinner

I don't think @777infinity  was dwelling on it -- just asking for advice and encouragement.

But great advice to avoid wasting time on negativity.
