Sellers beware. Be careful about listing this perfume because there are alot of knockoff fake ones in circulation. Even if you dont list it as authentic, the buyer will assume it is and will expect you to allow them to return it, saying it is not as described. Then, you will be expected to pay the return shipping, losing more money. So, do yourself a favor. Make sure you know for sure it is authentic by comparing it to the box at a department store such as Macy's or Dillards with the box you have. The number on the bottom of the bottle of perfume (a 4 digit code) must match the one on the box. If it does not, it is fake. Plus, if the spelling is incorrect, the liquid is not clear and consistent, label is not perfectly aligned, bottle is flawed with bubbles in the glass or is priced at less than half its retail, then it is probably a fake. Op, I wouldn't call that a giant wall of text, but to each his own.  In any case, I have added paragraphs and reposted your OP.

Sellers have the option of refunding without requiring a return if they don't want to incur the extra cost associated with a return due to return shipping.  Of course, they don't get their item back.

Fakes are not allowed to be sold on ebay whether you say so or not.

As a seller it is your reponsibility to be absolutely positive that what you are selling is exactly as stated.

Would you want to pay for fake perfume.  Then why would your buyers want to.

It could be the OP is trying to warn buyers of what to look for and not selling fakes herself.  Kind of like a public service announcement.

Your post implies that you are a seller that listed said perfume and now has to pay for return shipping. You've made 2 posts about this so if we are assuning wrong and you are the buyer let us know.

As has already been said - if you are selling fake perfume - it's illegal. Not only will Ebay take your listings down and possbly take away your selling privilges - but if the manufacturer gets an tip of this happening - you may get a letter from their legal department. On the off chance - you have the buyer ship the item back - which should only go ground by the way - do not try to resell it as it is no longer new if they opened it - but you're already n Ebay's radar for selling fakes.

The term you in this case refers to all of you.  It is a general statement as well.  It refers to all sellers.

Because there are so many fake versions of this perfume and most buyers expect the authentic version, I propose a method to authenticate it. Ebay would have to be involved of course, but too many cases of buyers claiming they got a fake version is growing weary. So, I say, the way to do this is to be like amazon and get approval from ebay to list it as authentic. In order to streamline the approval, upload a receipt proving it was bought from a department store with a picture of the bottle and a picture of the upc to match to the receipt. If it was not bought from a department store, you would need to submit a picture of the bottom of the bottle, the front of the bottle and every angle of the box to see if it is authentic. There are certain indicators on the box and bottle that indicate if it is authentic or not. If it does not pass as authentic, then the product cannot be listed as authentic. It could be classified as synthetic-new or synthetic used. If the perfume has no box, it cannot be listed legally because it is very difficult to authenticate. This will work out better for buyers in that they cannot refute the claims of authenticity and sellers can stop getting returns for not as described items.

There are multiple posts on 3 different boards but the condensed version is—-She sold fake perfume, didn’t state in the listing that was authentic and feels the buyer shouldn’t have assumed it was and should have compared the label in the picture to the label on the buyers previously purchased authentic bottle, before purchasing her bottle. Feels buyer is wrong and abused the MBG. She wants eBay to change the MBG so that the buyer cannot assume the item is authentic and then file SNAD when they find out it’s a not.

Thank you, @missjen831, for catching me up.

If I saw that the name of a perfume was the name brand I would definitely think it was authentic.

If it said "smells like" J'dore or something like that I would it was fake.

I feel the assumption is that is real unless it states otherwise. NOT the other way around.

And maybe someone is buying for the first time and doesn't know what the bottle looks like.

You cannot sell fakes on ebay.

So that means the seller cannot list it here.  Period.

So no way would the OP win here whether she was honest about it being real or not.

I don’t think she gets that Emerald. Did you see her other posts? They allude to selling a fake perfume and take no responsibility, and inidicate ignorance of eBay policies.....
