I checked an item I have for sale and at one point it says 18 views, I check it the next day and it says 17 and then 16 views
How is this possible? Anyone else getting this glitch?
BTW I noticed that views no longer go up when you check up on your item from a different browser or in incognito mode, fwiw ... views tied to IP address maybe?

It is not a glitch. The view count is a rolling count from the last thirty days. Views fall off as the days pass.

I don't understand that at all, I just want to know the total number of views of my listing from the start date until the present date and I don't know why they do it this way

I don't know the age of the listing ^^^ you're referencing, but do you know that with just a few ticks you can see the total number of a listing's views for (up to) the past 2 years? It's pretty easy... tick this link and scroll to the bottom to 'Listing traffic history report'.
Just thinking outside the box... and hoping that a 2-yr 'look-back' might benefit you. Good luck.

Why?
A View is a customer who looked at your item and decided not to buy it.
A Watcher is a customer who thought they might be interested but didn't have enough interest or money to buy it.
Rolling Views tell you that your items have some current interested customers but not interested enough to purchase.
Is it time to pep up the listing or the pictures?

Rolling count or not, I've seen the view count go down during the course of a one-week auction. I'm not talking about watchers - I'm talking about the number of people who clicked on the listing. A bug in the software somewhere!

I see what you are talking about. I have the same issue. I dont think these people understand what you actually mean. I think you mean the total count (cumulative) has dropped. For instance, I have one item that had 27 total views, but it has now dropped to 24. I dont think its a glitch, it might be based off of accounts that might have been closed or bots that were but are no longer active

There is no Total Count (Cumulative). As noted many times so far, you can only see the last 30 days of views on the Active Listings page, or you can click in and see other timeframes, but it makes total sense that views fall off a rolling 30 day total...

Read what I posted again. I understand about the 30-day rolling number. But I've seen this go down on a 7-day auction. No "30 days" involved. List the item on Monday, by Tuesday there are 20 views, but on Wednesday, it's showing 18 views. Please explain how this is possible.

Because a view that is, say 100 days old that does not result in a sale is useless information.

@jtucker52a and @1fr3_28
In recent years, eBay changed the way views are counted. Below is the policy governing page views. It may offer some additional information.

Now that actually makes sense! I had a hunch it might be something like that, but hadn't seen a good reference. Thank you.
A secondary filtering process performs a deeper analysis on a daily basis and removes bot traffic that may not have been caught by the initial filtering. (This can cause your page views to decrease)
