Item Photos

As a Seller on eBay for several years I've wondered why so many sellers seem to enjoy showing their hands holding the item they are posting. Why, can't they prop up or just lay the item flat? Seems weird to me.

They dont know how! They dont think about! I very **bleep** about my pics too.

Years ago a guy put a item on his washing machine to photograph, and in the reflection of his item you could see he was standing there in just his underwear.

The better the picture the more views and profit. Walmart has great photo booths of different sizes, and they are really cheap.

Re: Item Photos

Guess  it depends on the item.  Often use my hands to hold and item to get a clear view of  feature or close up of a label but will crop out most of my hand/fingers to minimize.  Most of our items  will have at least 6 to 8 pics to visually & completely describe my items.  If we only need 1 pic to do the trick then  maybe  a shot with a hand/finger wouldn't be needed.

To each their own.

Re: Item Photos

I am interested in purchasing jewelry and often times you will see the brooch in the palm of the seller's hand. I would joke with my friend and say it looks as if they are holding the item up to the gods.  So one day I was checking out my fiend's items and there she was with a brooch in the palm of her hand. I had to write her and ask her what the heck???  She takes beautiful pictures, but for this particular items she just couldn't catch the reflection of the stones until she held it in her hand. We both had a laugh.

Re: Item Photos

Some sellers intentionally hold all of their items as a size reference to help show scale.

Re: Item Photos

I don't like the hand thing either.

On a slightly related note i just purchased and received this photo-taking background thingy for taking ebay pictures. To see it, do a amazon search for: "LimoStudio table top photo studio seamless"

A fellow boardie here suggested that some of pictures could use improvement. I'm going to mess with it tonight.

eBay has millions of sellers and billions of photos. I doubt you would ever get a consensus on what was the best way to do anything.
