Is this standard eBay policy??

So I ship a 10.00 item and I ship with tracking. I enter the tracking info and it’s on the way (it’s in Chicago and I’m on the East coast) but that is the final tracking update. The buyer has filed a “didn’t receive item” and my $$$ is frozen even though I shipped with tracking. Do sellers just lose out when the post office fks up? What else should I have done??

Sellers are ALWAYS responsible for the package until the buyer receives it.

When you get an INR filed against you, IMHO these are the steps to take.

Enter your tracking number into the INR.

Go to USPS website and review the detail tracking info.

On this tracking screen there is a place to file for email updates as there is movement on the tracking. Sign up for that so you get informed right away when something gets entered to the tracking.

Go and file for a TRACE, I don't recommend filing for Missing Mail just yet. The two are completely different actions. The Trace usually gets the job done quicker.

Contact your buyer. Keep all contact inside the INR filed so everything is recorded on the claim. Let your buyer know you are working with USPS to get their package delivered. Apologize for the delay. And let them know you filed a trace which takes between 48-72 hours for USPS to respond. As you get any information you will update the buyer right away. Assure your buyer that you are working this problem and will continue to do so until a proper resolution.

If there is movement on the tracking within the last 7 days, Ebay will keep the INR open. Do not voluntarily issue the refund yet. It is highly likely the package is going to get delivered, it is just late. Annoying for the buyer for sure. Just stay in touch with them and assure them you are working on a resolution.

That’s unfortunate. I understand sellers are responsible until it’s shipped with tracking but how can I be responsible once it’s left the  post office lol. I am not responsible for transporting it to the buyers home. Makes no sense but I get what is happening here.

Until tracking shows the package was delivered, the seller is responsible for the package.

Have a great day.

I am amazed that with 2.9k items sold you have not had an Item Not Received Claim before.

You are very lucky.

Yes, you are responsible for the safe receipt of every order you sell and ship.

Your shipping carrier is working for you, and you are responsible for their performance. If they lose the package, you refund the buyer and after that can pursue any insurance claim which is appropriate.

Ebay is conforming to the requirements of Federal and State Consumer Protection Laws, and you must conform as well.

These laws were written well before there was an internet or even an Arpanet, and are still applicable today.

Not really the meaning of responsible through is it.  If I leave you responsible for watering my plants while I’m gone and it rains for 7 days straight and the plants die cause the sail turned to mud are you responsible? Should you then buy me all new plants?

I don't agree.  Think of it this way.  What if you were the buyer?  What if you ordered something but never received it?  Would you just accept that you have lost that money?  I doubt it.

You are responsible, just like any other retailer is responsible to get the product to the customer.

I don't think you do "I get what is happening here. "

Are you suggesting that if you were the buyer and you ordered something from a seller here or Macy's or Target or Amazon etc.  If the item never arrived, you would not contact the seller or company you purchased the item from and ask them to make good on it???  I think you would.

I guess if I didn’t pay for insurance then I assume a bit of risk.

Insurance has nothing to do with this.  However if you shipped an expensive item, insurance is always a good idea.  But you need to look at your method of shipment as some carry $100 worth of insurance automatically.

It is hard to believe out of nearly 3,000 sales that this is the first time a shipment has been delayed.

And don't jump to the conclusion that the shipment is lost as that would NOT likely be true.  The vast majority of packages that end up with slow shipping / tracking entries are just slowed down.  They will arrive, just late.  So do not rush to refund.  Follow the instructions I gave you in my first post.  That is the best way to get the package moving and delivered.

Do you just refund because the shipment has been slowed down?  Or do you try to get the package moving?

Do you know if the item was received AFTER you refunded the buyer?  It is highly likely it was.  Signing up for email updates on the tracking as instructed in my first post keeps you informed on this.

Refunding just because you have been notified that an item has been slowed down is NOT ever in your best interest.  Especially this winter with all the weather events across the nation.

If you want help.  If you really want most of this to stop, READ my posts and follow the instructions in my first post.   IDK why you are reluctant, certainly your right.

No one has been rude to you.  We ask questions because we want to better understand so we can better help.  You have received step by step information on what to do in cases like this.  But if it is your desire to just be done with it, refund your buyer and move on.  You have every right to do that.  But don't blame that on Ebay or the buyer.  That would be your choice as you don't want to try file the reports with USPS.  Again, your right completely to make that decision.

You do not have to lose your money unless you just prefer to pay the buyer and be done with it.

I assume you responded to the INR case and uploaded the tracking number that show's it was delivered?

If so, the case will close in a few days in your favor and your funds should be released.

Why would it do that?  Tracking shows it hasn't yet been delivered.

Unless, which is always entirely possible, I misunderstood the OP.  Are you reading what they said to mean that tracking showed delivered?
