Is it ethical?

I have an auction, and someone has asked me to add a high buy it now price to the listing so that they can buy it and skip having to bid and watch it. So far there are no bids, so I can do that. But I just want to know if it's ethical to do that? There is a lot of interest in my auction...but I don't anticipate it being bid higher than this person is wanting to pay.

You have an X day auction running.  When you listed it, you set the rules.
I'm sitting here looking at it, going to play by the rules, waiting... (you said X days, not me, so I'm waiting).
And you sell it out from under me?  To somebody that asked you to break the rules? The rules you set??
I'm now done with ya. Forever.

@redlinear Do you have a memorized list of sellers' names with whom you are done Forever, like when you're browsing search results, so you can avoid buying anything from them?

With 135 million ebay users I think even just for $5 more I would be ok with that.

Re: Is it ethical?

It's YOUR item.  If you're happy with the person's offer then that's up to you.  Consider the fees, shipping, etc.  If there's no bids, it's your choice and ethics has nothing to do with it.  If watchers haven't bid yet it's their loss.

I used to.  But your train of thought is correct.  Not likely to meet ever again.
BUT, I do order a lot of things from the same sellers or the same companies over and over again (shipping supplies, shop supplies, etc).   If any of these companies had done me wrong, I'd not be using them any more.
We used to ship hundreds of items per day also.  And favored certain shippers.  Heck, we shipped UPS exclusively for at least 12 years.   Then, they got a new local manager that I guess was trying to make a name for himself ..... they did a few things I considered unethical.
Dropped them like a rock.
FedEx (their competition) was more than happy to show me some love 🤣

Also, from back in those days (those were eBay AUCTION days for us).  You would not believe the hate mail we would get if we had to end a listing early. Even legitimate reasons would get "watchers" wound up.
And yes, I printed a lot of our hate mail up and saved it.  Not keeping track of anybody, but just for future fun.  We dig them out and read them every now and then. Just for a good laugh.

Re: Is it ethical?

All it takes is placing one bid, the seller's starting bid, to eliminate the threat.  It's watchers own fault if all they do is watch, then watch the listing disappear.  🤣

@induma47

What's a saller? Your post makes no sense. You should open you're own thread if you're having a issue.  Piggybacking on someone else's issue isn't going to help you & will get lost.  Open your own thread to get the help and advice you need.
