Is ebay limiting views?

Funny, it appears my item views have come to a screeching halt and items are not showing in catagory.  Is eBay limiting to try to get more promo fees?

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

to many different extent- yes ebay limits views.  based on a number of algorithm designs the search limits individual listings based on their age, popularity, price, etc.

Many have also reported that after they get fed up with paying promoted listing fees that do not enhance their sales..... their account listing views are being limited severely (as if being punished for quitting the program).     You might reason that of course their views would go down if not promoting but the reality is that its not just the promoted views that stop- its the organic views that die off as well which should be unaffected unless artificially manipulated.   Many have said that once you promote-ebay will never let you stop- so there is a cautionary tail.....

By its very nature- a search engine manipulate results- promotes some and hides other. its what it does......the problem is the "man behind the curtain" that programs it. You must look at ebay as a company to see what its goals are to determine how it chooses to program the algorithms.   If you do you will find that it is not "organic" or closest match to what was searched like it once was

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

You have WAY too many items with the EXACT same title. So, instead of having 20 items, you have about 5.

Also, not allowed to have 'duplicate' titles so eventually that will catch up and ebay will remove.

Regarding 'less views' and ebay doing it; again, with all those duplicates, they can/will only show 1 item per title.

I think so. I've got my eyes on this widget that I really wanted to buy myself for xmas but ebay only let me look at it once.

Not quite. You're allowed to have duplicate titles as long as the items themselves are different/in different condition.

What's not allowed is having multiple listings for the exact same item in the exact same condition. For example, you can't make 5 different listings for the same brand new sealed DVD. You could, however, list a brand new sealed copy and a used copy and use the same title for both as long as you had them listed under the proper condition in item specifics.

They aren't duplicate listings nor are the titles exactly the same.  They are each different items.

Not sure what you are looking at. It is clear that there are titles worded exactly the same. Take a look again.

eBay, like every other online selling platform, is run by computer code that can be programmed / tweaked to limit -- or enhance -- the visibility of any item at any time for any reason.

eBay also makes clear that its mission is to provide "Economic Opportunity for All."

Throw into the mix eBay's software sales ("promoted listings") which are designed in the first instance to ensure a steady flow of revenue to eBay, regardless of whether or not anything actually sells.

Now, draw your own conclusions.

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

@inhawaii that is the problem with all the over-manipulation of the search. it is annoying for sure. since you did not purchase the item the first time...ebay thinks you did not want itor there was something wrong with it and will not show it again.

I understand what they are trying to do (keep new and fresh listings in view),but it does not take into account any other variables such as:

1. just was not ready to purchase yet

2.looked at it on my phone but want to purchase when i get home

3. researching prices for later

4.looking for a gift idea.....but you will never find it again

The only way to keep something available is to watch the item ....or you will never find it again on ebay

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

Is eBay limiting views? I have no idea but I do notice interesting view counts. I look through my listings once every week, to see what people are looking at and maybe adjust my price if I see a lot of views and no sales on an item.

What I find interesting is I'll have some obscure item listed and all of the sudden it will have a lot of views, no views for the last five months then this week there are five or so views. Why, is it for some reason suddenly showing up at the top of search results?

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

eBay's search result algorism is not consistent, even for promoted listings.  I had the same issue before (promoting an item assuming it would show at the top of listings), but this is not true.  It will show at the top SOMETIMES if there are others also promoting the same item. '

But I do think eBay is pushing for more of this advance promotion campaigns,  where you are paying for clicks.  I've tried this for a week.  The only thing that happened was zero sales and $216 more fees for eBay.

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

That's what i understood as well, Different condition of the same item warrants a duplicate title as long as that condition is mentioned

No they aren't and they aren't the same items either.  They are don't duplicates.  The only thing that is the same is the first half of the title.  The type of car is different.

Eldon Slot Car 1/32 Scale '62 Ferrari Testa-Rossa

Eldon Slot Car 1/32 Scale '65 Chaparral 2C

Eldon Slot Car 1/32 Scale '66 Chaparral 2D

Eldon Slot Car 1/32 Scale '66 Chaparral 2D  [you are correct on this one, however the car color is different than the other, so not a duplicate]

Eldon Slot Car 1/28 Scale? '62 Lotus 23B

Just a few.  Each listing is different, however @snoopdad40 really should put the color of the car in the title too.

Re: Is ebay limiting views?

It's true they are different titles, because they are different cars, The same thing goes for listing hot wheels, a certain model or color is the difference
