I had an auction come up last night at 8:00 (CDT) and got the email confirmation that it was active. This morning, I checked the number of views and found only one! So, I tried to pull my listing up and guess what?
No listing!! I cut and pasted the title and still no matches... now, I'm just wondering how many of my other listings aren't actually listed...

I see 336 listings of yours at the present time. How many should we find? What is the listing number of the one you're discussing here?
P.S. Okay, I notice now that you called it an auction, but I see no auctions at all under your ID.

Shows up in my feed as #256567213431... 7 day auction.

I don't see any auction either.

That's my point. It shows up in my feed, just as it should, but when I search for it as a potential buyer would...
no listing.

@tdwdhw, that listing is active, and has been for about 18 hours at this point (6 days 6 hours left).

It can take up to 24 hours (and sometimes more) for a listing to be indexed, and it won't be searchable until it has indexed. Some listings (for example, weapons and military items) usually take longer to be indexed than other, less risky types of items. That listing is military (WWII USMC) and recently, reports are that military listings are taking a least 24 hours almost all the time.

I was able to find it by Item number but I can confirm that it is not showing up in search.
You listed this last night
eBay states that it can take up to 24 hours for new listings to appear in search. It's usually much faster, sometimes only a few minutes but sometimes it just takes long. This is not a new thing at all but with almost 2 Billion eBay listings it's more frequent.
Partially it depends on random things, partially on the listing category, luck of the draw getting into the indexing queue, how busy are the servers etc.
Wait until later tonight before you get really concerned.

I have often wondered whether scheduling the listing in advance to start at a later time would give it a head start on getting indexed for visibility. I generally get my listings set up several hours in advance, in case I need to make some last-minute changes, correct errors I missed or whatever, and have never noticed a lack of visibility in the early hours of the listing once it's started. I usually see some views right away.

I'm inclined to say "no". You could do some testing, maybe after a few months of tracking listings using scheduling vs not using it, then trying to track when they show up in search and see if there is a discernible pattern that the scheduled ones are faster.
I don't do Auctions and very rarely create new listings, the bulk of my activity is on my multi-quantity listings which have been running for years so I have never monitored the time it takes for my listings to show up.

If that did work then it would be very bad programming as it would be choosing to do the work out of order to no overall benefit to anyone. They can't index it until it starts (you could change it before it launches then they would have to do it again).
What is happening in reality is that the listing hits the servers, one process looks at it, and then tosses it over to other processes, things that are potentially banned will likely get looked at by many different processes, and it isn't going to show up in search until every process is done with it.

It used to, for sure. Some years back, eBay suggested scheduling listings in advance, and said they would be "pre-indexed" and, depending on how long were waiting to go live, they should become searchable almost at once.
They took that wording out when they dumbed-down most of the policies several years ago. So no guarantees that it would still work now.
