......And you run across a "deal".  Do you take them "all"?  Or do you leave some for the others huddled around the area whose antennae have gone on full ALERT that there is a lady shoving armloads into her cart?

First come, first served. I'd take them all. Without guilt. 😁

Take it all and thumb your nose.

My categories rarely allow me to purchase multiples, but I have never had a cashier mention that I am buying six copies of Bescherelle or two otherwise identical sewing patterns in different sizes.

The purpose of the thrift is to sell stuff to support their mission. If they question why the paying customers are buying something, they make less money for their charity.

It all depends...

I've gotten stuck with loads of inventory that wouldn't sell before.

I am much more careful and selective today.

I may even run a "test" by picking up a few, then going back and getting the rest later (or not).

And if I miss out that's ok too because I have tons of inventory I haven't even listed.

As it is written, somewhere, '  Do unto others .....'.

Now, do you REALLY think any of those lurking about are going to save or leave any for you or anyone else?  Let them work and find their own.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

I call it 'working'...  I get them all along with snarky looks and remarks from shoving everyone else out of the way.

It depends. Do you really know that the item will resale for many times more than the cost ? When I am not sure I will usually just take a couple and leave the rest. I do not want to get stuck with a bunch of stuff that would not bring a return in investment. Sometime when I see people grabbing and running with items that I know a little about, I chuckle knowing they will not make anything off them and they are wasting their time.

Inventory Resourcing

I had to go to Cincy today for a meeting for day job.

There are 2 thrift stores that I love to visit while I am there.  One is smaller, one is larger.

I finished my meeting and went to the "larger" one first.

They have these flat carts with bins that they wheel out to put the stuff(s) out.  Evidently, the employees cannot shop from the back and can only shop on their breaks/lunch hours, etc.

There was a large basket (think laundry basket size) that was filled with NWT kitchen and bath hand towels from Crate & Barrel, IKEA, William Sonoma.  There ended up being 61.  They were priced .99 cents each.

I put the whole basket in my cart - clearly understanding the "basket" is not for sale.  Just a means to get to the front.  In a bin on another cart was clear tub full of yarn, thread, embroidery thread, knitting needles.  It was all new, most with clearance stickers from a popular sewing store.  I placed that "bin" atop my mound in my cart of basket towels.

There was no one around these rollers when I walked up with my cart and the store was busy.  Last - there was cardboard box with a lid that contained nascar metal cars, new.  They are all one driver (no clue who he is as I do not follow Nascar), but the cars were marked 25 cents and there were about 40 of them or so, so I thought, why not?

I spent $102 today and some change.  Most expensive thing I bought was a jar of buttons at $2.99

First, a guy over by me was loud about me taking the basket and the bin.  Yes.  I understand they are not for sale.

Then I get up front and have found 3 small holiday items and am in line and trying to see if all the parts in the one box and the cashier makes a huge audible when she sees the cart.

Then the lecture comes.  "You took them all, didn't you"?  "You need this many towels??"  "We work here and we can't buy towels until break and I only make $8/hr, yadda yaffa"

By now, the cranky guy from the back has asked for a manager as he wants to be 1000% sure I do not leave with the basket or the bin.

OMG.

After I paid, I offered the cashier her choice of 3 towels, my treat.  I was told to not do her any favors.  And then a word.  Cannot say it here.

Manager was really nice - helped me load everything in my SUV.  He apologized for his cashier, but told me that they cannot shop until breaks and neither can he - they cannot hold items in the back.

I offered him 3 towels and he was nice, but told me I missed the point.

Did I miss the point?  I was so embarrassed that I said nothing to him except to thank him for helping me load my car.  I didn't even stop at the Hippo as I was so upset.

About 1/2 way back North, I realized I should have pointed out that even if I had not purchased them all - the cranky dude in the back would have grabbed whatever was left and there still would not have been any for him or his cashiers.

Or am I still missing the point as he said?

I would have been in heaven.  I have started to use them as bath towels to save water in the laundry.  They are typically a 3rd the size of a regular bath towel.  They are perfectly effective for drying human bodies of all sizes, even overstuffed ones like myself.  If I was smart enough I'd figure out how to do a you tube promotion of some sort to get the planet to stop wasting water by making big thristy towels a thing of the past.

It's a store with merchandise for sale. The store does not put limits on how much one person can buy. You're a customer with money to spend. End of story.

You have no obligation to the people that work there to put aside merchandise for them. Even if you did that, guaranteed someone else would have bought that stuff before the employee breaks. If they want to be first in line, they can shop on their day off. You broke no rules. You did nothing immoral. Don't let them get in your head.

@toysaver

I agree - I love Egyptian cotton towels, but they take forever to dry.

I have long hair, so I need 2 towels for every shower.    I am not doing my part for the planet.  lol  (but I do have front loaders and I swear there is barely enough water in there to wash - I am always peering in there trying to decide as it seems like so little water)
