Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

Editor v2 takes a big step forward in providing community users with a modern message editing experience. Read on to learn about all the message editor improvements.

Drag and drop images, videos, and attachments

With Editor v2, you can drag and drop images, videos, and file attachments directly to the message editing pane or as attachments to the post.

In-line image editing

To reposition, re-size (small, medium, large) and insert a hyperlink for an image, you need only click on the image and choose the appropriate option inline.

Improved emoji support

Emojis are a powerful medium for expressing one’s thoughts and emotions. An emoji such as “👍” can be used to replace the text - “All the Best!” or “Best of Luck!” or “Well Done!”.

Editor v2 brings you the Unicode standard set of 2500+ emojis divided across 8 categories. Emojis are supported across both Apple and Windows devices.

Inline link editing

When you click on a link or use the arrow keys to move the cursor over a link in your post, the inline link pop-up menu displays:clipboard_image_0.jpeg

From the inline link pop-up menu, you can click:

  • Edit Link: Opens the link editing window where you can change the existing link.
  • Unlink: Removes the link associated with this text.
  • Bare URL: Displays the actual URL of the link instead of the website title. (If the Bare URL is active, this button is disabled and greyed out.)
  • Auto Title: Displays the title of the linked webpage for the link text. (If the Auto Title is active, this button is disabled and greyed out.)
  • Open Link: Opens the linked URL in a new browser tab.

Toolbar button optimization and consistency

We made several improvements to the message editing toolbar to optimize it and make it more consistent:

Toolbars across all discussion styles are now consistent and have the same controls. Moreover, the toolbars include many more options that cater to all messaging scenarios.

We hope you enjoy using these new features!

Oh, and Alan, I've tried 2 or 3 times using the new emojis but they don't appear on my posts.  I did try different  ones.

If it appears, this one should be the eye heart face   😍

Hi @mam98031

What browser and device are you using? Are you seeing error messages or do the emojis just not appear when the post goes live?

Thanks!

Chrome

Desk Top

No error code, they just don't show up on my post.

Same here. Just gone.

You'd think they'd test this stuff BEFORE going 'live'... <eyeroll>

@nobody*s_perfect   The  short answer is no ... I'll have to take more screen shots, this is not the only red banner error message I've seen ...

alan@ebay   Are all the changes moving the format towards the one used on the UK Community?

Maybe Ebay should try to spend as much time fixing their site as is wasted on the forums which are dying, and too heavily censored.

Or better yet, get rid of the forums entirely.

Where are the forums?

Hello Alan,

Thank you for this posting and the brief tutorial!

It is nice that the format isn't worse than the old, in fact, at first efforts, perhaps even better.  😁  I suppose it is to be expected since Lithium/Khoros is into playing with the real big boys now.  Interesting read.

Thanks, again, for your diligence.  Hope your Holiday was great and that the New Year is good to you and yours.

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

THIS is why every single listing photo I uploaded today, after hours of carefully editing them, look like **** when they upload to my listing? Are you kidding me? I just got off the phone with CS to report the PROBLEM and they lectured me on pixels and the internet. I have photographed and listed and carefully edited and uploaded more than 30,000 listing photos to my store via my iPad and your app. TODAY, after not listing for several days because we were away, EVERY single photo was stripped of its vibrant reds & blues and no matter what I did they were gray & orange & drab. The ONLY way I could get ANY vibrancy back at all was to use some cheesy inadequate slider bar on your photo thing on the app that had me in tears by the end of it. And now I am routed to this? And I’m a top seller; small, but consistent, certainly. And my photos are a major part of my little brand. And you do this? What is it with you people? Help!

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

I can NOT list any new items until this feature is removed from my app due to its extreme and horrifying distortion of colors, contrasts, and exposure of my professionally edited listing photos. Please respond or notify us when the problem has been solved or the “feature” has been removed so that I can continue listing and selling on ebay. Thank you.

@krys888

This is only concerning the posts on this board...........  It would not be affecting pictures that you use in listings.

You  might post on the tools and apps board for help:

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

I’m betting there is a connection. Photo program updated for the board at the same time the photo editing thing is changed in the app seems way more than coincidental. Every problem I’ve ever had on ebay that appeared at first to be a coincidence always turned out not to be a coincidence once I got past all the **bleep**.

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

Someone else already did and they aren’t getting answered there either. So at least I know I’m not the only one, which confirms that it is a real problem. For those of us whose colors are vital to the listings, I suspect more of us will be popping up. Wonder how many it takes before ebay actually addresses and answers us? Its frustrating when CS doesn’t know and no one on the forum knows. We are just stopped at that point.

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

Is this new editor for the board or for listings?

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

I’m being told it is for the board. But it is way too coincidental that they add a new photo editor to the board at the same time the listing photo editing program starts washing out our new listing photos. And there are others noticing the same problem but we’ve been moved to tools & apps where no one can find us LOL. The other seller who is bothered by it posted the problem in tools & apps three days ago and as predicted has had no technical response what so ever. So now, my post about it has been moved there too, where it will likely get ignored too. I can’t list any new photos until they fix it. What a nightmare.

Re: Introducing Editor v2: Enhance your Message Editing & Posting experience

@krys888   Would you be able to take some screen shots of what you are talking about?  I created a listing without issues on photo quality (below: one is the original and one is posted on the eBay item).  Please show your original picture and then what you are seeing on the eBay site.
