Why must we have insertion fees? So eBay can grab a little more money from us. I've been with eBay since 1998, well over 10,000 sales, and I have to pay 30 cents insertion fees, or buy a store for an outrageous amount. I love their little hints, "you might try lowering the price to 99 cents, and take best offer". Do they think that I steal my products? We buy what we sell, and once you take into consideration the insertion fee, them what eBay takes as a commission, then paypal, I'm losing money.

And yet back in the good ole days you had to pay insertion fees on every item listed and on a sliding scale based on list price no less. Now you get 50 free of insertion fees listings per month so why are you complaining??
If you are losing money - it's not because of the fees - it is because you are paying too much for the itens you are reselling.

Why do you charge a listing fee? So you can grab a little more money from your buyers?
Insertion fees, subscription fees and final value fees are the backbone of how eBay makes their money. Why do you get to try to make money, but eBay doesn't? Their business is not the same as your business in the way that revenue is made.

Funny I did NOT see where the OP is charging a LISTING FEE???
But even if they did charge a listing fee to the buyer, it would be to cover EBAYS listing fee being charged to the seller, for listing the item...

All you can do is try and tack the 13% cost on to either product or shipping.
ebay takes 10% paypal 2.9%
Let the buyers pay for your expenses if at all possible

Insertion fees are charged to weed out garbage listings, things that people list in a "lottery" fashion, hoping they MIGHT sell even if it's something that probably won't sell. This clutters up search and makes it harder for buyers to find listings where the seller gave some thought to whether it was worth listing.
Be thankful you aren't being charged what eBay's "quality controlled" Help section actually says they charge:
